Dr. Loewen is a very caring prof but I do not recommend taking any Mennonite Classes if you have no interest in the topic, and/or not a Christian. Although he makes the lectures engaging, he can be extremely disorganized and often gets sidetracked, and he does not use powerpoint. He does care about his students so I'll give him that.

Professor Loewen was one of the best profs I've had to date. He made the classes really fun and interesting so you actually wanted to come to class. He was also hilarious. There wasn't much of a workload besides a few tests and seminars. I would 10/10 take a class of his again.

A great professor for those students like myself who excel in classes that are purely lecture and don't rely on powerpoints or handouts. As well, I missed the exam date (by sheer stupidity) and he asked only one question when I asked if I could still write it and that was which day worked best for me. Incredibly understanding, very respected!

Loved Professor Loewen! Just an all around nice guy. Super helpful and open to questions. Encourages class discussion (not forcefully though) and conducts very interesting seminars! Great class, even if you don't have an prior knowledge to the course.

Excellent Prof, highly recommend him, interesting, funny, and a great guy, he does lots of seminars in his courses so you will be expected to speak about your essays you write but he won't push you if you are uncomfortable speaking.

Excellent professor. Helpful, friendly, and completely un-pretentious. Has an open curiousity that is very engaging. One feels that you are exploring the subject together, rather than being given truths by an authority. I highly recommend any class he teaches.

His class is very interesting as he ties in current issues for discussion. Tries to pull out student opinions on issues being discussed. He will spend extra time helping with understanding of essay topics if you are stuck. A kind, humourous teacher who will help you learn about peace movements.
