Comment:
My whole life I've gotten 90s and 100s in English classes. I FAILED this class because of Ruth's teaching style. She's passionate about Beowulf and then the rest of the year she coasted with rambling, incoherent lectures and apparent disinterest. The quizzes are incredibly unfair and she shows very obvious with favouritism. 1/10 do not recommend.

Not terrible, but very hard marker and has extremely high expectations for her students, which she doesn't back up with especially good teaching. Course covers a ridiculous amount of material, which makes it hard to engage with any one text in detail, and also forces you to read very fast. We had to read all of Great Expectations in 5 days.

I LOVE Wehlau. She's my favourite professor this year! She takes the time to read all her students' essays even though she has TAs to mark them, and her lectures are incredibly clear and humorous. Her exam was very fair. I feel like the students who complained were just too lazy to study properly or attend class and do the readings..

Wehlau is very inarticulate during her lectures - she oftentimes gets off topic. Her quizzes are unreasonable - she expects you to identify the title, time period, author, genre, and who is speaking in any random passage from any work. Her exam is the same layout, forcing students to memorize 40 texts just to be tested on a mere three!!! NO SLIDES!

Worst prof I've ever had. Once, I had a question for an assignment and she wasn't in her office for office hours, so I emailed her. No response. A few hours later, I sent another email. No response. Over the span of days, there were at least five. She is also incredibly dull and makes essentially a bird course difficult for no reason. Terrible

Ruth meant well, but her lectures were incredibly dry and hard to follow. I was disengaged despite my best efforts. The final exam was much too difficult, even for a university exam. I was quite familiar with the texts and I struggled to complete it.

The worst prof I've had yet! Her lectures were boring and extremely confusing as she would jump through topics. The expected readings were quite overloading and her tests and exams were completely unfair expecting you to recall the title, author, time period, context, genre, and info about a text you covered for 2 mins in class.

There's a lot of reading to do before her class, but she rushes through everything in class. The guideline for paper is also unclear.

I can say with confidence she is the worst prof I have ever had. Her lectures are incredibly dry and uninformative and her expectations for the assignments are unclear which in turn leaves you extremely confused. I found my marks in the course to be horribly unjustified. She was completely unsympathetic to any concerns I had.

She seems perfectly nice but she gets too distracted in her lectures and jumps all over the place. It is very hard to keep up with her and honestly, her teaching did more harm than good when it came to understanding the text. Not a fan of her as a professor, but am most certainly a fan of her as a person

One of my favourite prof at Queen's thus far! Her lectures are quite interesting and engaging, and the assignments and quizzes are very fair. If you keep up with the readings, and attend classes regularly, it isn't difficult to do well in her class.

Wehlau is tough but fair. Her courses tend to cover a lot of material very quickly, so you have to keep up with readings. She is very helpful and is readily available to answer questions. She is funny and very knowledgeable. It is clear that she enjoys teaching and loves the material she chooses. Great prof.

Her lectures are interesting. She's fun to listen to as well. Not always the most organized, but it won't really cause trouble. She also puts any images (ie paintings) you might need on moodle! Yay! She's awesome!

Wehlau is a pretty decent professor. She didn't change my life or anything, but she was friendly, clear, and engaging, which is just about all you can ask for. She set reasonable assignments and exams, and was very lenient about paper deadlines. I enjoyed the class, and would take another from her!

I went in expecting a great prof because of the good reviews here, but I was disappointed. She was often late for class and used different texts than the ones she assigned so the page numbers were different and the classes hard to follow. She jumped around a lot while lecturing and went off on tangents often. She made the class harder than it was.

Very helpful and knowledgable. Open to all comments and ideas from her students in class...welcoming in fact. More time on middle english pronunciation would have been better. Funny, sweet, and understanding of individual needs and setbacks. She makes English FUN!

Nice Teacher Friendly. Not the most knowledgable about the Bible. Often knew less than some of the students about certain parts. Kept excusing her shortcomings with " I'm really a Medievalist, not a Biblical Scholar" Ummmm, then why are you teaching the Bible, then?
