Comment:
Truly the worst course Ive taken to date (and Im not new). There was literally no actual instruction aside from one YouTube video and 2 PowerPoints (one which was made up of entirely images). The grading was completely arbitrary and made no sense. Due dates were either unclear or constantly changing. Definitely do NOT recommend.

I'll never take English again. I've learned nothing, super hard to get an answer from her. We had papers to write but none of us had any clues what we were supposed to do. No guidance. There are basically no lectures, just random powerpoints posted with vague information. I'm a straight A student and got terrible grades in this class.

probably the worst experience I've ever had for any course. Feedback? none. Guidance? none. office hours? none. Teaching? can't believe it's possible, but basically none. Have you ever had to write an essay about a subject that has not been presented to you by the teacher except for a youtube video link? now is your chance to experience it!!

easiest college english course I ever taken! I'm so glad I took her. I usually get a C+/B grade in english, and with Slade I got an A-! If you see an online english course with her, I REALLY RECOMMEND IT!! Her readings are interesting and she gives you a lot of time to do the assignments. GPA booster for sure.

Classes are discussion-based, and Sandra finds the perfect balance between moderating discussions and encouraging student engagement. She rewards participation, and is always happy to help as long as you put in the effort. As the course is an academic writing prerequisite for a BA at UBC, be prepared to write at least five papers. Great prof.

She is really a good teacher. She focuses on what you need to improve. I have no idea how is she in university transfer courses, but she is an excellent teacher for ESL students.

She is an experienced professor and really knows how to teach. I've learned a lot of techniques to improve my writing. She may look strict first, but she is friendly and really helps you. Use her office hours too. Highly recommended!!

ENG1100 is not necessarily a difficult class, dependent on your reading and writing level. Slade can expect quite a bit, can be unclear on what she wants from various assignments, but she is a fair marker and gives you opportunities to improve and ask questions. The course is reading heavy, also requires discussion contribution. Would take again.

Taking 1100 online and the material is more like a philosophy class rather than English class. Final requires lots of review on every single thing covered throughout the semester (philosophical ideas and critical thinking)

Sandra was great. Initially I was not fond of her personality, but she really grew on me. Didn't put up with ppl who didn't care. pay attention, be polite, and you're golden. she was clear on her expectations for essays too. happy to get an A with Sandra

I really enjoyed Sandra's class. She doesn't spend a lot of time trying to force students who don't care to care, which I like, and keeps discussions rolling amongst those who do. Fair marker, show up to all classes and you will be fine. Not the easiest class but completely manageable with some effort. (She has great style also)

This course is designed well and is varied.Problems: "The doctrine of affections", don't buy it! Sandra is good at what she does, but she is moody and can be rude, also if you are a minority she can be biased.

She's a great english prof and english is my most dreaded course. She is anti-tech, tho (no laptops/cellphones/tablets in class - don't buy an e-book for her class!) Not an easy marker but pretty fair. Must keep up with readings - lots of group work on the readings (I think this is a good thing.) Not too much work. Don't get on her bad side, tho.

Attendance is must! Lots and lots of group work. I'm not too sure if i've learned anything from her class. She's a fair marker, but still, you don't get a clear sense in her class. She definitely has her favorite. If you are her favorite, you'll be okay with absence and texting in class right in front of her.

First english class that caught my attention and interest. Slade was an engaging prof who incorporated sociological, psychological & historical themes into our readings which made studying literature fun! I really liked this class which (going into it I didnt like english classes) actually had me wanting to take more english classes! Great prof!

She was very interesting. I gave her a 3 for clarity, but if you raised your hand and asked her to explain something, she would do it without sounding condescending. Good Feedback. One of those teachers that really want you to succeed :)

Sandra was great. Really warmed up to her as the term progressed. Fair/easy marker and tons of opportunities to increase your grade. Didn't have to go out of my way for the A, but be sure to attend classes. Don't give her sass - she'll rip you apart.
