Comment:

As someone who is uninterested in political science, this professor has opened up my mind on investing more time to research our political atmosphere. Unlike some other professors who bore you to death, his assignments actually make sense while his tests can be difficult, but he allows us to use open notes during it.

Comment:

Despite his unorthodox style teaching such a boring topic, Mr. Heffner makes the class interesting and engaging as it can be in comparison to other professors. While some of the tests were tough, he offered tons of extra credit to students who struggle in the class. Even though his assignments and tests had erratic due dates, his class is amazing!

This was my first online class and he was the best. We only had to score 56% to pass. Total class point was around 300 and he gave 85 point extra credit. Three midterms no final and three 15 point quizzes. Exam contained one essay question and 60 multiple choice (you could google majority of them) You need to read if you want to get an A.

Took his online class. There were 36 assignments but wait the syllabus was 32 pages long. I kid you not. There was a quiz just on the syllabus. I took another online class the same quarter that had a 2 page syllabus. It was difficult to follow exactly where I was at because the instructions were so confusing.

Terrible teacher. He always changed the readings/assignments at the last minute and his exams had questions that were never in the readings. 3/4 of the Catalyst class dropped the 4th week of the quarter. Save yourself the trouble and find another teacher!

The text book and materials are so confusing and heavy.You really need to be professional in English(not a class for non English speaker for sure) but the instructor is extremely helpful if you want help, so be careful if you are not English speaker.

In my opinion, if your coming on here saying HARD DONT TAKE, then you won't be able to handle being a full time UC student. Don't expect going into community college and it being a piece of cake. Very tough but well worth it.

This guy is an extremely horrible. He mumbles his lecture and basically I can't hear a thing from him. He also had this weird habit of rocking his body from left to right non-stop. Unclear and not helpful at all! Extremely boring lectures and would completely screwed you over! !!DON'T TAKE HIM!!!

I think anyone who says this instructor is "impossible" clearly is not UC material. Half your grade is take-home exams and the tests are very doable if you actually care to attend and take notes. I'm not genius and easily got an A+. I suspect all the negative reviews are students who would fail anyways unless they were just handed a passing grade

I can't deny that Heffner is harder than most De Anza instructors BUT it is not impossible to succeed in his class. Do well on the take homes, do all extra credit and know what's in the LESGO before tests. I got an A+ in his class...

DUDE, DON'T TAKE. I shouldve listened to everyone below! I'm going crazy trying to figure out what my grade is.The take homes are long, and half the stuff isnt covered on quiz. He jumps back and forth between slides and your "LESGO", will EASILY get lost if your not locked onto his every word. I suggest buying a recorder. Really nice guy otherwise.

This is the most difficult class Ive ever taken. I am trying to hard to pass this class and he makes it impossible. The lectures are interesting but the information is scattered. Exams are on nothing but his lectures. All his instructions are unnesscessarily long and incomprehensible. Dont take!

I loveee Heffner's class. He makes discussions super interesting & engaging, and has a really great personality. my advice: take his class, visit him at office hour, and have fun! it's a lot of reading, but the reading is interesting, and his tests are all straight out of the book. he gives tons of extra credit. I wish he taught more classes!
