To ace this class, you need to read. Each day there is an assigned reading and quiz based off that. They're just chapters in the book. HOWEVER, after the quiz and say you get a bad grade, you pretty much have the rest of the class to ask him questions about it and he'll usually give you the exact answers.

Dr. Pain rubbed me the wrong way since the first day of class. He tries to be insightful and critical is his lectures when in reality he's just saying words that have no relevance or importance to anyone. You have a test every single class and purposely picks multiple choice to trip you up. He's extremely egocentric. Highly recommend not taking him

worst class ever. the professor was the hardest grader. it was easy to study for the multiple choice, but the essays were impossible. he automatically took off points if you didn't show above what he asked for. don't take this class. i took it freshman year and my gpa will never recover from this hit.

This will be a blunt and straightforward response. Dr. Paine is a very difficult teacher, however he is willing to help and is very easy to approach. He can come off as egotistical. His class revolved around lectures so pay attention. I did learn a lot in this class, however.

Hard, but fair! If you do the work and think outside of the text, you will be fine. He expects you to think and apply in your responses, so if you are look for a straight forward "from the text" course this will not be your cup of tea! He's passionate about the subject and loves you to interact with the lectures. Moreover, he is fair and open.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! I have been a 4.0 student since Freshman year, and he has made it impossible for me to come close to maintaining that. He loves to fail people, it sounds crazy but it's true!! He grades each exam harder than the first and his expectations are like law school level. DON'T TAKE!!!!!

Only take him if you're truly interested in what he's teaching. There is a lot of outside work that needs to be done so if you're not willing to put in the time then I do not recommend taking him. However, if you want to learn, are a hard worker, and are truly interested in the subject, then i would say take him.

He expects way too much for a 200 level class. His study guides for the tests are around 12 pages long once completed. There is no possible way to finish his tests without doing the study guide prior. His new testing system which he claims "helps the students" does nothing but cause more frustration and work.

THis class is VERY boring. Scott is fantastic though and is willing to help as much as possible if you need it. He's a tough grader on tests though, so make sure to study at least a week before any of them or you'll definitely fail.

GREAT! love his quizzes which he does with the class with clickers like a game. Reading is not mandatory but needed to help your quiz grade. hes willing to help fun professor take. Attendance is not mandatory persay but helps on tests and quizzes.

Passionate teacher! He keeps things interesting. I had no intention on taking this class, but very happy I was scheduled for this course. I am currently taking his course, gives weekly quizzes but he has changed his grading system which is VERY easy. His exams are easy too. You learn A LOT and won't mind going to class. Highly recommend this prof!

he is very personable and he will do anything he can to help you. he doesn't take attendance per say but going to class and paying attention is to your benefit because there is point to everything he talks about. the material is dry but he knows how to explain it & relate it to real life so it is easy to pay attention and understand. take him!

Great teacher. He is passionate about communication and politics. The interesting facts he gives on the side are worth writing in your notebook margins. Very knowledgable. There was only a few short papers and tests. He drops the lowest test. Also, If your a frosh who has to pick an adviser for next year, I HIGHLY recommend him!

He was a difficult teacher who sets high standards of expectations for his students!! Most of the complaints regard his grading. He is certainly hard, but definitely great!!! He is very knowledgeable and a good teacher, and if you don't mind working for your grades, then you won't mind this professor. He's the best I've had at UT so far!!
