Comment:
Dr. V is a nice man. His lecture was very humorous. He surely should teach organic chemistry instead of general chemistry. Not a harsh grader and not many homework. But you still have to work very hard to achieve a good score in his class. But I love Chemistry, definitely will take his class again.

If you are expecting an answer for a question, this is not your guy. However, his lectures are pretty good and he is pretty accessible for your questions. Despite that he won't answer them. He is a fair grader. If you want an A, practice everyday and read the textbook. But you can do fine by doing the problems he gives and going to lectures.

Extremely hilarious. Does not answer your questions straightforwardly, he rather let you do the job. He teach in a way that made the course seem much easier than it should be. Loved him.

Clearly brilliant and very willing/able to give a clear explanation if you ask him about something. Not the biggest fan of the way he organized his lectures, but if you read/take notes on the textbook (AFTER lecture) and compare/combine these notes with your lecture notes (memorize those mechanisms!) his exams are actually quite straightforward.

Dr. V can be a little cocky at times, but like many of the other professors in the F&M chem department, he is still very friendly, smart, and good at teaching. Organic chemistry is an incredibly difficult subject, and no matter who teaches it, it will be tough. Be prepared to work hard. Utilize the practice exams. His actual exams are identical.

Fair? Yes. Easy? No. He makes the material make sense if that is what is meant by easy. But class averages of C+/B- don't seem to indicate easy.

Very fair grader- generous with partial credit. Really nice person, and makes class fun. Easy-going, especially in lab. I definitely recommend taking Van Arman if you can! The class is difficult, but he is a very reasonable professor.

Think orgo is hard? He makes it so easy for you that you just can't fail it...really. He's so easy. He's also VERY lax in lab, an extremely fair grader. In a word, take him and you WILL pass orgo. I didn't put in that much time and didn't even take the final seriously, but I still got a decent grade.

man, van arman was tough, but that's the nature of the beast. tests were fair in that they were just like the practice tests (except for that the last was inexplicably different - many people failed). He goes very fast in class, and sometimes it's hard to check your notes against the book cause he doesn't teach out of it. Best of luck.

Best Chemistry teacher I've ever had, hands down. Smart as hell, lectures without notes and at a very quick pace. Can answer any question you throw at him, but be ready to answer about 10 more if you ask one. He isn't afraid to grill you. 2 hour exams at night are tough, but very fair.

Chauvinist (but who isn't in the chem dept ?) Pretty good prof. though, knows his material- made some girls cry during lab. He's a snob but he's the best looking prof in the chem dept. Overall, not great but it could be worse

Very demanding but excellent. Slightly intimidating at first but very willing to help. He won't give you easy answers but helps you to answer your own questions. One of the best in the department.
