A few things that annoyed me personally is his choice of vocabulary during his lectures, so expect the following: Circumstances, particular, case, rate, instance, part. "Under these circumstances" "In this particular instance" "Particular circumstances" "For the most part" "and what have you" "In this particular case" "At any rate"

The course structure is a disaster. We strayed far off the syllabus in terms of time as well as content. Despite the class being "art history", he built his midterm around an irrelevant modern photography exhibit he organized. I believe he certainly is passionate about art, but his disorganization derails the entire learning process.

This is the worst class I've ever taken. Do whatever you have to in order to avoid taking it. He's weird and seems allergic to providing good feedback. I signed up for this just to spread the awareness regarding how terrible he is. He repeats the same dumb phrases 15+ times per class "At this particular point," "In this particular instance," etc.)

Definitely not a bad professor, dry sense of humor and he knows a lot. The only downsides are that he does go off on tangents and can be late. He will answer questions, and if you show that you are competent as a student and are doing your work, he won't have problems with you. Take notes, do your research, communicate well, and you will be golden.

Test were hard as hell. Better hope you find people to help ease the load of tests. Work in groups!!! His style of teaching is having you stare at a screen and have him ramble off his narrow viewpoints while telling you art should be unbiased, then when you turn in papers and tests on how you view the art he tell you your wrong.

One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Assignments and lectures are rambling and VERY unclear. For example, his explanation of the midterm assignment is 20 pages long. That is twice as long as the actual paper. He strongly encourages class participation, yet is extremely condescending to students when they chime in. Nice guy, horrible teacher.

I'm having a hard time finding the words to describe how much I dislike this professor in 200 characters or less. He managed to make a fascinating subject uninteresting and frustrating. His lectures are extremely hard to follow and filled with confusing vague language, he is disorganized and communicationexpectations are essentially non existent.

I took his online Art History 1 class. He gives 3 midterms. They are LONG. He doesn't require anything else except reading articles he posts on blackboard, so I usually wouldn't get around to reading them until a few days before the midterm due date. I would spend almost whole day completing the midterms. I learned a lot.

There is no actual "homework" other than to keep up with the posted online articles and reading out of the textbook. There are 3 "take home exams" throughout the semester which basically consist of long essays, comparisons(pages) of artworks and a synopsis. Since there is no real homework he doesn't teach you anything, and grades tough.

Even though most are taking his class as a GER requirement, there is a lot of writing that is graded very critically, so it's won't be an easy A. I was disappointed that I didn't learn anything in class, rather from my own research to write the papers. I would definitely recommend taking a different class.

I took his class online it can be difficult he asks you many questions that have nothing to do with the book. but he can be really nice if you are honest and try to do your work. don't take his class if your not willing to work.

I took a class with Dr. Licka in Spring 2000. It was very challenging and often I felt like I was drowning in the subject matter. That said, this class forced me to reexamine my preconceived notions about art and beauty. I would never have watched Laurie Anderson without the course. It was hard, but I even earned an A. Class recommended.

This class was very difficult. He gives you a 6 or so page syllabus which is also what has your assignments. You have to write a lot and he compares your writing to other student. Doesnt post anything on Blackboard and does not show interest in teaching. Horrible Class.

I understand why some people might not like him at first. He can be cold, but you can't take it personal. I spent a lot of time with him since I was a transfer student and he was the ONLY one who cared to help me (his own way of course) but he gets things done. I respecting him a lot and value his knowledge. He is very smart and down to earth.

He is a pretty good professor. He may be difficult to comprehend at times, but very informative. He will help you if you ask (he can't read minds), he also expects you to carry your own weight. Somewhat of a tough grader but fair.

He is one of the best and nicest professors I've ever taken a class with. He has a brilliant mind, and I've learned so much from his lectures. He may seem hard to follow at times, but he really cares about art and his students and he is very fair. He has high standards, but his classes are very rewarding.

I was pretty frustrated with this class. It seemed as if the students who paraphrased the textbook got A's, while those of us who actually thought critically about art got lesser grades. Be prepared to write a lot for his class!

Did a random search to see what this professor was up to. I had him for a Bauhaus course when he taught at University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth in, gulp, 1989-1990. I found him to be very smart and he clearly cared about the subject matter. However, he could be arrogant and seldom gave direction in a clear manner. He was a good editor, though.
