If you like to act and be dramatic you will probably love this teacher. If you are a quieter sort who needs the right setting to come out of your shell, you will be mostly ignored. Expect to hear a lot of English and Swiss German from the instructor as opposed to Hochdeutsch.

What an amazing teacher! She's great at teaching, but there's a catch; you have to be bold enough to bring it up when you have a problem in class. She's very fast paced and won't stop unless you ask questions

I'm used to going to class, learning stuff, and then leaving until the next class period. Shana's German Theater Workshop was so different! I made lifelong friends and got an exposure not just to the German language, but to real-life topics as well. AND you get to perform at the end of the semester! I would recommend it for any level German speaker

Comment:

Honestly the best German teacher I've had. The class was mostly a review and moved very fast but was easy to keep up with until the end chapter or two. Lots of in-class participation and activities; only one textbook and it's absolutely necessary. Don't make silly mistakes and you'll be fine. Shana is so much fun and very highly recommended.

Shana is one of the best professors I've had at ASU. She is a great teacher. A lot of class time is spent playing games that actually help you learn quicker. She is also super nice and understanding. Volunteer at the festivals she offers extra credit for, she gives you plenty of points and they are really fun!

Shaina is an awesome professor. Very helpful, very kind, extremely organized and productive. Establishes a great connection with students. I really love German so for me the class was mostly easy, but it can be challenging. This class covers a lot of material quickly so be studious.

She has a true gift for teaching a second language. The homework she assigns is rarely too difficult or time consuming. She does not have patients for those who do not try to learn, or for those who do not participate. She has an awesome sense of humor. No phones! She'll call Switzerland if she sees them! I highly recommend her!

Took 111 and 201 from her. She is one of the best teachers I have had at ASU. Able to keep the class excited about learning German and has plenty of energy (as long as she has had her 8 cups of coffee). Would strongly recommend. Nightly HW but not real hard.

An organized and fascinating lecturer. Able to keep her class awake and interested. Treated everyone with respect. There is great deal of homework requiring a serious time committment. I have mixed feelings on this one. But if you really want to learn German - Shana is the way to go.
