Dr. Cote is one of the nicest and most caring professors i have had. As an non-english major i took this class as an elective, and she made this class a little easier than it could have been. The grading criteria wasnt always clear and the tests could be confusing, but if you go to her office hours she is always willing to help.

lots of in class assignments and homework, so must attend. I read almost none of the materials, because she explains them in depth in class, so pay attention and you'll pass. a few short papers, one presentation, midterm and final were easy. she is so sweet to the class (brought us food) but can be intense one on one, so go with caution

Dr. Cote is one of the sweetest professors I've ever met. She loves linguistics and that's obvious. But her lectures are a bit confusing and dry, so I studied the book and did fine on the tests. She's sometimes not clear on her expectations or what she wants but she's really nice and willing to help you. Not the easiest, but shes a good woman.

Professor Cote is the sweetest professor I've ever met! She's very passionate about literature and the class was pretty easy for an honors course. Just do the readings and the simple assignments that go with them. Midterm was fairly easy, and there is only one presentation and a few papers. Take this class!

Dr. Cote is so sweet & her love for linguistics is obvious. Her lectures are interesting, but sometimes tough to follow. The concepts can be hard to grasp, and although her examples are usually interesting and engaging, actually absorbing all of the material can be a bit daunting. Not a bad class or ton of work, but defs do HW and study for exams!!

Dr. Cote is sweet, albeit a bit scatterbrained woman. Every class is a lecture, but she is interesting and passionate about her field. There is a midterm and a final which are not easy, but she offers extra credit on both. The textbook will be your lifeline. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should go because it makes the exams much easier.

In class, Dr. Cote's lectures are really confusing and don't seem to necessarily line up with the reading; however, the homework assignments and study guides help to prepare you for the midterm and final. She also offers a lot of extra credit on the exams. If you work for it, you can earn an A.

Comment:
She is very confusing in lecture. She will bounce back in forth from topics, and doesn't write out/explain them very well at all. When you ask questions, she gets frustrated very easily and will still bounce around the answer. Her lectures are insanely long and very confusing. I needed this class for my minor, but avoid her at all costs if you can.

This class is excellent for anyone into the speculative genre. She picks an excellent selection of readings from fantasy, science fiction, and cyberpunk, which are much more interesting than the readings of a typical class. Classes can get a little boring, but as long as you do the reading and pay attention you'll be fine.

She's a great teacher and definitely knows her stuff. As long as you actually pay attention, you should be good. She gives you plenty of opportunities to ask for help and is even willing to give extra points on occasion. Just try and you should be fine.

I really hated this class at first, but Prof. Cote tries really hard to get you interested. She's super helpful and sweet. She buys you rewards for participating. She's a great teacher, but know that the class is not an easy one.

Very nice lady, but very unclear when it comes to paper assignments. The reading schedule is fair, and as long as you keep up with the syllabus and turn in the pass/fail assignments, you should have no problem. Very passionate about the subject. Overall, the book list was interesting even though I was not originally interested in science fiction.

Disorganized, says "right" too much, scrunches her nose a lot. Knows her subject extremely well, but doesn't know how to answer a yes/no question. The first few weeks are really boring (bring Sudoku or a crossword), but it gets better. She grades a 400 level class like it's Kindergarden: checks and -1/2 pts.

She is so cute! She really tries to make the class fun. But be warned, it is HARD! Be prepared to go to her office hours! She can be hard to follow so you really have to pay attention which is hard because the class is boring. Assignments are due every class and only four tests. So you have to do well on everything to get a good grade. Reconsider!

Great Works in Speculative Fiction may be the easiest class ever offered. All you have to do is keep up with the reading which isn't that hard since the books are interesting. Tests are very basic. Simple questions about basic plot details etc. The only somewhat difficult things are the two papers but there's extra credit to balance that out.

So, it seems like she's an easy grader, because all her assignments are pass fail, the midterm and final aren't hard, and then WHAM! Get your first paper back and wonder how you even got that grade. Go see her during office hours before you turn it in--even if you think you're going to get an A, it'll probably be more like a C.

Dr. Cote is a very nice lady. She was really fun in class and obviously knows what she is talking about. There were two papers which were graded kind of hard (she is big on grammar) but lots of in class stuff and the final and midterm are pretty easy!
