Comment:
Dr. Schwarz is such a sweetheart. His class, which was freshman English, was like a Socratic seminar in which you are able to express your own opinion on the readings we had. If you put the effort to read and participate in class, you'll learn so much, about the readings & in life. His grading for essays are average but he encourages you so much

Dr. Schwarz is one of the best professors I have taken at Cal Lu. He loves hearing student's voices on topics covered in class and how they can relate to it. I have taken two classes with him and have enjoyed them both.

One of the lowest maintenance english classes I have ever had. Dr. Schwarz is great. Even if you say one meaningful comment during class, you're golden. Very light homework. Very light reading. No tests or pop quizzes. Just three papers and weekly journal articles. He really just challenges you to think of the material in relation to yourself.

Best English professor/teacher I've ever had and will probably be the best I will ever have. He inspired me to do my best work because he was accepting of the fact that I wasn't the type of person who could read and understand literature completely and encouraged me to do what I needed to succeed. He also taught me how to learn more about myself.

It's been 30 years since I sat in Sig's classes, and so much of what taught me and helped me learn has saved my life many times. I actually became a writer, but it's the spiritual things that stick with me, guiding me. I wish I could be sitting in his class now, but he's always in my heart. IF THERE'S ONE TEACHER YOU HAVE TO HAVE AT CLU, IT'S SIG

Ability to relate to books on personal level is amazing. Really helped me understand myself and analyze my whole thought process. Not an avid reader but really enjoyed reading in his class.

Great guy who really makes you think. Papers and journals require time but he notices improvements in students. For reading material, he wants you to analyze and connect to it on a personal level. His ideas can be abstract, so keep an open mind.

no set grading system. grades how the potential he sees in students, and wants them to bleed their heart out in papers (write about personal experiences more than analyzing the book.) very mixed feelings about this professor.

Very loose. Wants you to learn from the course in whatever way best suits you - very accomodating to different learning styles and never rejects an opinion as bad or worthless. Must love writing to take this class. Lots of films shown in the class, usually adaptations of the books. Writing is mostly informal and in journal form.

Interesting guy. Very deep. He is one of my favorite professors at CLU. He does not only care about your grade but also how you develop as a person. He likes students who like to write a lot. Either you hate him or you love him. I absolutely love him.

Existentialism... look it up, he is not liberal he is not conservative... he is one of the only reasons that CLU can call itself a good university... He challenges you but you also have to challenge yourself to get the most out of anything in life. If you want to find out why he always wins the teaching excellence award, take his class

Schwartz is a great professor. I had no interest in lit before taking his contemporary writers class. He is very open to hearing everyone's ideas. He grades very fairly, looking at content much more than grammar. I would highly recommend taking his class.
