Comment:

A lot of people talk about another gender 100 prof being the best, but I couldn't fit any of her courses into my timetable. Dr. Banerjee ended up being a fantastic alternative! Going to lectures and taking decent notes with little studying got me an A in the course. Lectures were interesting and she was quite good at hosting class discussions!

Comment:

I loved this class. Incredible material, great lectures, fantastic teacher! I would take it again and hope to take more of her classes in the future. This class definitely requires you to do the work though. The tests and assignments are challenging but were based on interesting material. Would recommend this class.

Comment:

I loved the class and Dr. Banerjee held it well. The assignments were clear as she handed out a sheet outlining her expectations and explained them in class. The only vague assignment was the journals but she took this into consideration when she marked and explained her expectations in greater detail for the next journal. Great teacher and class.

Comment:

The guest lecturers are the best part about 303. The assignments seem to be created with little thought given to the student. Guidelines were nonexistent, but then she graded them as if she had explained what she'd wanted in the first place. Incredibly disappointed. Only take this class if you're prepared to change your writing style altogether.

Banerjee has difficulty completeing sentences and being clear in what she is assigning for work. Lot's of guess work and very little support. Prepare to feel disrespected at every turn. Do not take her class if you are male in any way shape or form.

Sikata is hands-down my favorie prof ever. She is a tough grader and makes you work hard but I learned more skills in this class than in 3 years of other classes at Uvic. Shes fair, clear, and really really brilliant.

Dr. Banerjee is no-nonsense, organized, and brilliant. In terms of organization, her class feels like a breath of fresh air: powerpoints every class, clear notes, clear expectations (do exactly as she says). She's a tough(ish) marker and expects quite a lot from her students (ie: lots of readings). You won't be disappointed.

Get ready to have your mind blown. It's literally a paradigm-shift every class. My one regret at Uvic is that I did not take more classes with her. She is tough and no-nonsense but you will learn SO MUCH and come out a better write and student. I also think she genuinely wants you to succeed but will hand you nothing unless you work for it.

She is wonderful! I actually looked forward to her classes. Would not recommend her class as an "easy A", not even for people who haven't taken much WS. Very good at keeping discussions on track! Very nice prof and passionate. If you keep up with the readings and show up you will do great! She's my favourite prof at UVic for sure!

You have to show up and keep up with the readings but if you engage with the material and think about what she is teaching you , you will do fine. Excellent teacher. Some find her very difficult; I found that quizzes were easier to study for when I kept up with the readings. Going to all the classes really helps. Dr. Banerjee is an impassioned speaker, very knowledgeable, and makes an effort to be accessible. I am already looking forward to taking another class with her!

I really enjoyed this class! Sikata is very passionate and enthusiastic about the course material, which made the class really enjoyable. There are a lot of required readings, but they better your understanding and encourage you to think about lecture material. Overall I would recommend taking this course!

She is a really great prof. I loved her class, she's always prepared and it's really interesting how she links everything together. The readings are a must though. I took it just because it looked like an interesting class and now I'll be minoring in it. I'd recommend her anytime.

When I first registered for this class I was afraid I might not be able to understand her because of her name. Make sure you go to the lectures, because most of the tests are based on discussion and the videos watched.

She is definitely a hard marker. She rarely gives any positive feedback. Expect to have your papers butchered to death with red-marker criticisms.
