Professor Aungst is a great professor and a fun guy. The class itself is difficult and there are a lot of quizzes and labs. However, the labs always worked and the expectations and grading criteria are clear and fair. The lectures are cool because they are interactive and he teaches for the quizzes. I would take a class with him anytime.

Stan is the Man! I never had a hilarious professor like him at all during my time at Penn State. He rambles a lot, and he relies on his TA's a little too much, but if you actually talk to him, he's a great guy.

Really interesting teacher, but you have to go to class due to attendance. Semester long project. Overall not too bad.

Dr. Aungst gets a bad rep on here. This particular class was great, and he really lets the students run it the way they want to as far as subject matter goes. He's always down to help or talk about whatever really.

Stan is an expert in the field of cryptography. He isn't too up to date with cyber security but he is still very knowledgeable about information security principles. Stan has a very good heart and will help anyone who takes the time to go talk to him. His lectures can be a little confusing at times. But overall, easy A, & great learning experience

I've read a bunch of reviews on here and I have seen a lot of negativity towards Dr. Aungst. Let me just say for the record, Dr. Aungst is extremely intelligent. He has 5 degrees. His lectures can be a little confusing sometimes, but if you EVER have a question, just go talk to him! He is the nicest professor I've ever met.

Let me make something clear boys and girls. I had Stan for multiple classes in the nineties. I am now an it professional making well over six figure. Stan is one of the few people in the university community with a clue about the real world. If you want to be successful grow up and listen to him.

Aungst is the professor to take for this course. This is his field and he has the real world experience to relate to it. He is a down-to-earth guy and is easy to talk to. Quizzes are tough but labs are generally easy. Final project was graded pretty tough despite a very bare-bones rubric, so make sure you get work done early and get feedback on it

Stan was an awesome professor for this class. It was extremely easy. He basically puts all the test questions/answers directly in his slides. Terror plot project is really cool and we also covered some material about the drug cartels in Mexico. You'll see a lot of real world stuff.

If you are in IST you have heard of aungst. I loves to go off and rant about his war days. so expect that. Basically his TA's run the show so its not bad. You dont use the book. His quizzes are easy and his slides explain everything while he doesnt? haha. Its really isnt that bad but i just could be this class. I didnt mind him.

Quite possibly the worst professor I have ever taken. The 50 minutes I spend in this class 3 days a week are what I picture purgatory is like. IF you can understand his mumbling it's likely he is saying 3 things "digital spies and digital espionage" (12 times a class min) "this is a real world example" or something about himself that

The class itself is terrible. His lectures are incomprehensible and the quizzes are worth almost the entire grade. The projects are very interesting though, and Stan himself is a great guy. Befriend the LAs and go to the review sessions. Follow the syllabus because he doesn't remind you when they're due. You're kind of on your own here.

A class with Dr Aungst is a preview of what to expect in the real world after graduation. He helped get me a summer internship in DC where he is highly respected. If you live in the real world he will be one of your favorite professors.

If you want to get the view from "40,000 feet" or "drink from a fire hose" take Stan. If you want to actually learn look elsewhere.

Nobody seems to like this man but I want to take a stand. Stan has worked in the field as he says but its a very old field. He knows some about cyber security but isnt a master. He is an expert when it comes to war and terrorism. He is easy and if you take his class you can drink from his firehose

Stan honestly has no idea what he is doing. The class is terrible. Expect to learn everything yourself. AVOID this man at all costs. You will regret taking this course with Stan.
