Tries to insult students constantly, boring lecture, all he does is solve problems in class (expects us to know the material) hand writing is completely illegible and the way he solves problems are totally different from the way they teach in the text.

To pass this course with an "A" just make sure you do all homework and sample exams beforehand. Everything you need is on his website, you are responsible for all of it. No one is going to spoon feed you, if your stuck make sure you get the help you need from the TA or online. The professor can lecture, but not always good at explaining.

Quite cocky, but knows his stuff. Don't be surprised if he shoots you down over wrong answers/simple questions in class. Not available, and did not communicate with his TA at all. All in all not a tough class, I would take it again. It was good programming practice, but you have to have a love Java to pass.

Great at lecturing, engaging teacher but completely dismissive, sarcastic, expect to be shot down for a wrong answer. Teacher is unavailable for any human contact, releases grades goes missing does not allow you to review your exam or discuss grades. Best advice to give is do not even study his practice exams complete curve ball.

As cocky as he is, he is actually a genius. His method of teachin is better than other profs who just read the slides. Yes his tests are hard,but not if you practice the sample midterms. As someone who never did programming before, I got an A. Oh one more thing, make sure you go to the weekly help sessions if you're struggling. IT HELPED ME A LOT!!

He is a hard proff. He can teach pretty well but tends to ramble/quickly jump over things matter-of-factly and the class is lost most of the time. Midterm was okay, final was pretty damn hard. A lot of people gave up one hour in, some questions were from material not taught in the course. You need to study hard on your own to do well.

Stephen Chen takes easy teaching to a new level here. His lecture material is very clear and simple; he takes all important material one step at a time. He also has small assignments for the subject material that make very good practice for the midterm and exam. However, you will struggle if you have no interest or skill in programming.

He is hard, but if you have taken this course with other professor, especially during summer you will know why he is hard. Every word and advice that comes out of his mouth are honestly helpful. at the beginning of the course i only had 40 but he is lenient toward the assignment submitting time. I ended up with an A.

Stephen teaches concepts so clearly and thoroughly. He provides lots of good examples and sample exams/midterms. He goes over what he expects for assignments/midterm/and final exam. He is enthusiastic to teach and is always there before students are! I think he's the best prof I ever had. I don't understand why other people are downgrading him.
