Great professor overall. He gives out 4 quizzes throughout the semester, unannounced. He expects you to read the books he assigns and to come to class and pay attention! Quizzes are based on lectures and so is the final. 2 essays that are easy if you read the books, and gives extra credit when you read a book he suggests and write a review.

Excellent professor his lectures are understandable he provides lecture outlines with terms which are on the final. He also repeats information so there is no reason why anyone should fail this class. The class is based on 4 essay quizzes which are super easy. Two CR/NC essays and a final. I would recommend Prof Colston for anyone who needs HIST.

Dr. Colston is an awesome professor. I do not like history, but he made it bearable. His lectures are very clear and his final reflects that. Class is based on 4 quizzes with the lowest being dropped, 2 credit/no-credit papers, and the final. The final was pretty easy. If you attend lecture regularly, it's hard not to get a good grade.

Phenomenal professor. I went in last semester with zero interest in Latin American history, but now half my schedule is in the subject because of this class. Attendance is a must and lectures are long, but very interesting. You only have to do the readings for the short papers, which are graded pass/fail. Never touched the textbook and got an A.

Lectures are long and boring but he is a nice guy. Not much outside work required. Just 4 pop quizzes based on the previous lecture and 2 short papers about books he assigns. He is very clear re: assignments and stays true to the syllabus. One of my favorite history professors at SDSU.

Lectures are long, but the material is interesting and he is funny. Take good notes and you will pass. 3-4 pop quizzes based on the previous lecture. Two 3-page response essays on books he assigns, but you know what books they are from the beginning of the semester. He is the nicest prof I've ever had. I never did any outside reading and got an A.

Prof Colston was so helpful over the summer. You'll pass the class if take good notes. 2 essays, either pass or fail. Follow his prompt. He does pop quizzes where you get to study before you take them allows to drop one quiz. Final is easy as well if you have been to class everyday. He doesnt take attendance. Wish he was my prof for all of my class

Overall a great teacher, speaks really clearly and he'll recognize you if you go to class everyday. Go to subsections because there are pop quizzes based off the lecture. Grading is VERY lenient, two pass/fail essays and a final based off your readings and lecture notes. Very easy A if you go to class every day.

Wasn't my favorite class. Received no credit for one of the take home essays because I didn't follow directions haha. But I managed a B in the class, which surprised me. Books aren't necessary, just show up to lecture and listen to Colston, pay attention to when he starts numbering things off. Its mostly going to be on the quiz. slightly easy class

Great teacher, interesting lectures. I usually hate history but his lectures were interesting to listen to. Go to class, pop quizzes on material covered on previous class. Final is difficult and lots of material. WRITE DOWN EACH TERM HE PUTS ON THE BOARD AND DEFINE IT... That IS your final in addition to an essay. I got a B
