I really really REALLY like Stephen Ferris. He is just SUCH a funny guy (with such a chill style- check it out!). I love the way he teaches- despite his messy blackboard notes:) and I love the way he breaks the course down into 3 non-cumulative tests (low-pressure exam!). Simply put; What a nice guy! TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN.

He is alright, alot of graphs but if you are fine with that then you will do decent in the course. The best part about it is that the entire course (he loves this - you wil see it in other courses that he teaches) are broken into 3 midterms (including final) each worth 33.3%. The final is not cummaltive so less pressure.

excellent lectures, but written notes consist of messy graphs. the best way to take this class is to record his lectures and copy his graphs accurately. he is concerned with the "big picture" which eliminates alot of math from the course. very helpful out of class.

Stephen Ferris is easily one of the best professors I've ever had. He's tough, and you have to attend the lectures to have clue what is going on, but he's a big-picture thinker who is willing to answer hard questions with an "I don't know," which I find very refreshing. He's also very amiable and provocative: a great combination.

really nice guy, midterm was extremly hard. his notes were very hard to understand since they were just complicated graphs where like 4 different lines intersect is the answer and he would just do the same thing every class. lost interest in economics after he made it so complex, doesnt shift weight of course to final if you do better on exam :(

You can't help but like this guy! His teaching style is not my favourite as he's a little too messy for me, but I'm a neat freak. DON'T skip any of his classes and make sure you write down every word he says/writes. You don't really need the book, but you do need to solve his practice problems. Overall, a good likable prof.

This prof is excellent, but is more ideal for econ majors; he tends to assume you have micro and stats knowledge although they are not prereqs for the class. His lectures keep you awake; MUST go to class though, since he does not follow the book at all. Overall, one of my fave profs @ Carleton.

Take this prof. Very inteligent and will always take extra time to help if asked. Class isn't that key. Stick to his practice worksheets and do the readings (roughly atleast) and you will do well. The worksheets are veryyy relevant. Marks very fairly. You can answer with pure math virtually or with only words and get 100% for both methods with him.

If you dont goto class and rely on the textbook to learn like me. Avoid this dude because he teaches everything in class. Hes a great prof indeed but you have to goto class. I got screwed cause I rely on textbook which he doesnt use and notes which he doesnt have. Hes a great person tho. Going to class is ESSENTIAL in this profs class.

Ha, he has the absolute BEST way to teach I've ever seen. He teaches you all the WRONG ways to do something, then the right way so that come exam time, if you paid attention, you would make sure not to make the easy mistake on a straightfoward exam. Great Stuff.

A gem of Carleton economics. Great lecturer, always helpful, first prof I've ever come across that's responded to my confirmation of a point by asking quite legitly '...but do you see why?', and to top it all off: will likely take the class drinking after midterm. Now that's dedication!
