He has been my favourite professor so far. Despite sometimes rambling on I found him to be a lot clearer than other philosophy professors I had had in the past. His passion for Aristotle really made learning ancient philosophy a little less painful. His assignments are super clear and marked fairly easily.

Leighton is probably a genius but he has the worst communication skills. I'm a philosophy major who is used to eccentric professors but this guy is just all over the place in lectures. He is equally as confusing in personal meetings, feedback, and in questions on tests.

Leighton's class is by far the best one I've taken in my university career. He is an inspiring prof who will take the time to explain concepts and theorires. His explainations are well thought out. He makes greek philosophy extremely interesting and I enjoyed going to all of the lecture. Honestly, I wish they happened more than just twice a week.

He would really explain very thoroughly the material you were expected to read and would give clear explanations of what was needed of you for the exams. I never read the readings but some people found it easier to read them.

Leighton is a class example of the quirky university professor. Lectures were clear, he was happy to send you home early if he was done and he didn't drone on!

Leighton really struggled with lecturing. I was mislead by other reviews when choosing his class this past year. Pretentious in the sense that the material he taught was 'classic works' of philosophy (everyone seemed enlightened...) and he did a poor job of assigning a fair amount of assignments and articulating his thoughts clearly to the class.

Great professor! Does not assign huge amounts of reading because he wants us to study the texts deeply rather than "just touching" on a wide range of material. His explanations to me seemed very clear and he had good notes; I could understand him almost instantly and he always gave a unique perspective which made you think about things differently.

Pretty awesome dude with an odd sense of humour. Teaches with clarity and bad jokes. So bad they are good.

A genuinely lovely guy. Hugely welcoming and approachable. Very accommodating to me as an exchange student. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable in his field. Great exam formats. Flexible to students' wishes. Very laid back. Sometimes a little unclear but understandable with the complexity, depth and interpretation of material.

This professor is very clear, and makes attending lecture something you actually want to do. He's not unreasonable and is helpful as well. I would take a course with him again.

Knows what he's talking about, maybe not just as clear when he's explaining it. Loved showing up: Best memory has to be him sitting with his legs crossed on a table lecturing the whole class though. Although entertaining, I'd be discouraged to pay for another one of his classes.

He is a great prof, but seems to have a problem explaining complex theories in simple terms. Stutters alot. His lectures can be somewhat cluttered. Nonetheless I enjoyed his course and would love to take another!

Horrible. Until it came to ancient philosophers, then he's extremely clear, but fails with any other philosopher. Too scatterbrained, lecture a bit unorganized, need to learn to use a laptop, or at least learn to write neater

Though he is disorganized, students are expected to know the course material in addition to going to class. The content in his teaching is still, however, present. His personal opinions may leak through, but he is careful to respect opposing views. His genuine interest in the subject especially aids in thoughtful and elucidating discussions.

Refreshing to have a prof that exhibits no pretension and aids discussion without hijacking it. Clarifies points of disagreement and makes sure everyone is on the same page. Assigns useful and not overwhelming readings, and encourages the input of everyone on the seminar. Excellent. Plus he looks a little like Socrates from an old textbook of mine.
