Comment:
You don't learn anything in class. You watch films, and Parmelee tells you what he thinks. Every class is a waste of time. He grades extremely hard for grammar, which should not be the case, as this is not an English class. Overall, he's a nice guy, but the class is highly disorganized and unproductive, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Parmelee is one of the worst professors Ive ever had. Hes a really nice guy but he doesnt know how to teach. He rambles on about nothing for entire class periods. Hell ask you a question and then talk over you when you answer. He grades pretty harshly and all learning takes place outside of class. He could make better use of class time.

He's a nice guy. Talks for a long time, but he grades pretty fairly and gives lots of opportunities to improve your grade. Passionate about what he teaches and is knowledgable, but can be a little boring when he talks for the whole class period.

There is a textbook used but it is not required you buy it as he barely discusses it. The class difficulty is reasonable. Nothing extraordinary. The class is not academic at all and mostly consists of the professor commenting on certain aspects of film history. No slides. No lecture notes. Watch films outside class, write essays, and participate.

This is the easiest english class at pepperdine. I didn't do any of the assigned readings (just read summaries) and I passed the quizzes. There are no tests, but 4 writing assignments which are quite simple. Parmelee is a funny and caring guy, and is very knowledgable about literature and film.

He's a nice person and gives helpful feedback on essays outside of class but doesn't make good usage of class time. He just mumbles on and on about seemingly nothing. He gives us reading but doesn't care whether we read them or not. The class itself is not difficult except for the final research paper which is worth 3001000 points.

Learned nothing! Parmelee rambles on with boring & empty lectures then is extremely harsh in grading the many papers assigned. (Papers abt films to watch on our own time & w our own money.) Parmelee doesnt use rubrics & only grades grammar without considering essay content. He must think film451 is a graduate English class. Didn't use the book!

He is a very nice guy and smart teacher but he loves to ramble. Much of class seems dedicated to him showing how smart he is. He grades his papers as if it is an English class instead of a film class. He grades more on grammar then on content. Reading the book is unnecessary, DO NOT BUY IT.

He's a pretty nice guy, tends to go off on long tangents about how he feels. It's pretty much impossible to get an A on a paper, but overall it's a decent class. he gets mad if you miss class.

I loved this class! Take this class if you want your writing skills to be stretched. If you'll put effort into your essays, you'll love this class. You'll write 2-3 drafts per essay assignment, which means that you have many opportunities to improve your paper and get that A!

Great guy, dry sense of humor! Class is very easy and doesn't require much work besides some essays. What makes the class hard is his essay grading! You can never get an A on any paper!

Mr. Parmelee is a really nice teacher....his classes are not extremely interesting, but given the topic, he makes an effort to try to make it enjoyable....you get to watch a lot of movies, but then you have to overanalyze them for hours on end...

Great teacher. English class was a lot of fun - we just watched AFI top 100 films, discussed them, and wrote on them. Cares for students, and even brings snacks sometimes! Very organized and structured.
