Comment:

Easiest English class I have taken in a long time. For ENG129, I just had to show up, watch the movies he played, and write 2 page essays on my own time. Wick's is a fairly easy grader in all of his courses he teaches, as long as you use proper MLA format you are in the clear. No tests. No final. Just 2 page papers.

Comment:

Wicks is a great guy. He's smart and has the potential to be a great teacher. Unfortunately due to a lack of commitment or some other reason, his class is extremely easy and very little work. Everything I learned in the class I learned in high school. Don't buy the textbook, we never even used it.

It almost seems like he cares less about the class than I do. Overall he's a good professor, but the class isn't too engaging. Very easy A. Do not take this class to improve your writing per se, rather, take it to get a grade based off of your writing.

Talk about a GPA booster. Never really have to go to class. Can get B's with little to no effort. Work shopping papers was the only useful thing to show up for. He was willing to help if you needed it granted he wasn't always the most helpful.

Easy grader but useless class. He showed up late to every class in the semester except for two classes. You spend nearly all of the time workshopping essays, which sounds okay, but he gave us no tools on how to actually improve our writing. As an English major looking to improve my critical writing skills, I was very disappointed.

Prof. Wicks is a nice guy who knows his stuff. It's true that you don't learn a ton, it's still interesting. If you put in some effort you will get a good grade. For those who don't like to write, or find it difficult, he's willing to help and will the spend the time if you ask for it. No book is required which is also a bonus.

Wicks is by far the worst instructor I've had in four years at UMaine. He's always late for class, never prepared, fumbles around because he doesn't know what he's doing, and he lets you out of a 50 minute class about 15 minutes early. Easy class, but definitely not worth the money. Take 317 with someone else!!!
