Comment:

Hicks is most definitely the funniest professor I've had. There is quite a bit of reading for the class, however he makes class very interesting. If you're a person who doesn't like English like myself, this class is for you. You will be very interested in the discussions of the readings during class.

Comment:

Discussion based class, lots of reading for homework. Only graded on essays and attendance/participation, He is funny, but sometimes it is hard to tell if he is serious or being sarcastic. He likes to joke with people. Reading the paper book sold at the book store is a necessity, but no textbooks. May have to buy 1-2 chapter books.

Hicks is the funniest professor I have ever had, and the class is interesting because of him. This class could be incredibly boring with another professor. He even lets you redo a paper for a better grade if you ask him if you take it to the writing center. Great professor

Can be condescending to students and often is. HIs lectures do not really follow any sense or reason it's him talking and students just trying to figure out why he is telling you virtually nothing. I do not recommend him if you can avoid his classes.

Very sarcastic and goofy. Assigns readings outside of class then discusses them in class to review. Tests are difficult but was doesn't mind curving if the whole class struggles with material. writing assignments are graded fairly hard, looks for specifics and wants you to be extremely clear. Makes class interesting and funny.

He's so sarcastic and rude to people. Makes fun of everyone!!! He will give you a sample paper the class before the essay is due. If you write something that isn't his opinion, you will automatically get a bad grade on the paper! Also he takes participation points and attendance.

Dr. Hicks is by far by favorite English professor. He wants you to be involved in his class, even if it means you just tell him that you didn't like the reading. His tests are online and aren't hard at all as long as you know what the stories are about (Sparknotes). Oh and if you like sarcastic professors, he's the guy for you. He's hilarious.

He wants his classroom to be open for students to participate, however he does this by joking (often at the students expense). He's a lazy grader and gets quizzes from online and the written assignments are short. You can't just show up, you also have to make a smart-assed comment to get full participation points (not questions, just quips).

Fun guy, classes are all group talk which I enjoy. However, when it comes to papers and tests, you think you know what he wants, and then you get your grade and realize you must not have. Always ask questions for clarification. And READ THE ASSIGNED READINGS BECAUSE PARTICIPATION WILL SAVE YOU. Goofy, likes to joke, fun class. Just take it serious.

I don't like British Lit so it was hard for me to enjoy this class. You MUST participate to get full AttendanceParticipation points; if you don't, your grade will suffer. There are 2 exams (midtermfinal) and 2 papers. Your grade really depends on your AP, as it is all equally weighted. He's an interesting guy- you either like him or you don't.

Great teacher, one of the best at LHU. Cracks a lot of jokes, and really works to make classes enjoyable. Don't listen to his haters. In reference to 12/04/07's comments, that person wrote assignments that were 20 pages, when he didn't want them longer than 5. I'd have turned them back too.

Dr.Hicks was a good professor you have to have a sense of humor and be able to roll with the punches, if he continues to direct comments at you that you are offended by it doesn't hurt through some back every once and awhile just be very careful what you say, sometimes he has trouble with the smartboard be kind!

This guy is by far the worst professor ever,he curses all the time. If you participate or don't participate in class, he will make fun of you.He also makes fun of you if you leave to go to the bathroom or late to class. I can't even read his notes.I wrote two papers and all got turned back, and he told me to rewrite them! Don't take him!! Seriously

He was ok. The classes were funny and he looks a LOT like Dr. Phil. A very cynical man who likes to pick on certain people, particularly smart-a**es and ditzy girls. I honestly didn't car for his teaching style since you felt like you were on the spot all the time and he thought he was God's gift to literature. Not great but bearable.
