Comment:

Gives tons of examples in class. Tells you exactly what to expect on quizzes and tests by going over similar problems. Highly recommend attendance every class. He is a very fair grader and will give you more points for showing that you are working hard in the class. Will definitely take him for future math classes.

Comment:

He is an excellent math professor. He made it easy to understand hard material. You can't just expect a good grade by taking his class, you do have to put in the effort, but he makes it about as easy as possible to understand the material. He does an amazing job to prepare you for his tests. 3 exams and a final, weekly homework, 3 quizzes.

Professor Merrin is great. If you are a student who learns best from seeing lots of examples in a Math class he is the guy to take. Not only does he use a lot of examples but he also is very knowledgeable in the Math area, so if you have questions he is more than happy to help.

Does everything through paper so you don't know if you are doing homework right until the test. He is a tough grader and is very percise on how things should be done on the test. I would NOT recommend him.

He's a nice guy but very soft spoken, lots of times it was hard to hear what he was saying. He likes to stand in front of the board when doing math problems so it's sometimes difficult to see step by step of what he's doing. The way the class was outlined was confusing, so if you like to read the textbook I would take this class.

Comment:

Steve is one of my favorite math teachers. He clearly explains every chapter, and prepares you super well for every test and every quiz with plenty of examples that are just like the exams. He is really kind, and a little soft spoken so make sure you sit close to the front. Show up to class, take notes, and you will get an A.

overall he is a great person but not a great professor. he has a quiz right before every test and about 4 tests. the tests are so incredibly hard. he never explains anything and isn't good at answering questions. expects your to know everything. attendance is mandatory. he has a soft voice and its hard to hear him unless your sitting in the front.

I wouldn't recommend this teacher. He doesn't grade all of your homework, so you could be learning it wrong and have no idea until the test. He keeps the grades himself, they aren't online so you have no idea how you are doing over all in the class. I also find it lame that he grades for attendance, because we pay for the class to take it.

Great math teacher! Know the material very well and does examples of homework problems to help us with homework and the quizzes and tests. 4 quizzes 4 exams and the final. Good teacher, quiet voice, but knows the material very well.

I took him for math 1050. If you go to class listen and take notes you will get an A. Make sure to get your chapter homework done before the chapter tests and quizzes. He's soft spoken but he explains clearly and simply new concepts. I would take him again!

He is very difficult to hear and understand. He mumbles. He stands in front of the board and you cannot see what he is writing and then there's that hearing problem. Heonly uses the textbook. He does not use Canvas or any other online helps. So there is no way I could get help unless I went to a tutor since being in class doesn't help. Do not take!

great professor! He does do mostly practice problems, but he explains everything he does, which is why it is helpful to go to class. If you do the homework, you will be able to pick up on the material. He is soft spoken, but if you listen and pay attention in class, it's not a problem. He prepares you well for every quiz and test.

He is an excellent teacher. Calc 2 is the hardest section of Calculus so I wouldn't expect it to be easy but thanks to Steve I feel that I wasn't as lost. You need the book to pass the class and do the homework.

His homework is due by the end of the week but will still grade it before the semester ends. It is only a small portion of your grade. He is an excellent teacher and teaches this hard subject very well. I was never good at calculus but thanks to Steve I was able to understand it a lot better. You need the book to pass the class and do the homework.

I was not excited to take this class as I'm not very good at math. Steve made this class so easy to understand I still can't believe it. I almost want to take Calc 2 just because he was that good of a teacher. There were 5 tests total, he's very flexible with homework. If you show up to class, take notes, and do the homework you'll pass this class.

He is the best professor who I ever met. I really like his teaching and grading style. He is very organized and does not waste even 1 minutes of classes. Your learning from him would be long-term memory. If he teach any other classes at UVU, I will definitely take them again.
