Comment:
Great professor for any class; however, he absolutely THRIVES in abstract algebra. It's clear that he loves the class, and that makes his students love it too. Doesn't mess around with much homework or anything, just tests and journals. Tough grader on the journals, but he makes you a better writer. Definitely the best choice for this class.

Wow, Prof. Dougherty is seriously an amazing guy. I am jealous of how smart he is! But do not let that intimidate you, as he is very interesting, funny, and is always willing to help! I would take him again in a heart beat. There was 5 100 point tests and then a 200 point final. Syllabus said he would collect homework but it never happened.

The Brains of a God, Greatness of a Man. This is a thoroughly enjoyable class if you like math. Math class can be fun, he proves it with his charisma as a professor. Learned tons and really solidified my math minor. His tests are very fair. Prof Dougherty is one of the greatest professors at the U, no doubt. Much respect.

Really great and funny guy. Goes a little fast, and that's because he's so smart he doesn't realize it. Tests were pretty easy (4 + a final), but the papers (4) were a pain. Pick problems early and don't procrastinate and you'll do well on them. I only got a B, but I learned SO much, and I'm definitely taking him again.

Dougherty is such a great teacher! This class covers many diverse topics that are very different from most other math classes, but if you participate and put in some work, you will do great and learn a ton. The tests are simple and the journals are a bit time consuming, but they are really not that bad considering that you get a (W) tag for it!

Class is a joke. its so easy but he's a bit cocky and full of himself. He expects people to be much smarter than they actually are. He think one vague description of something is good enough and expects you to know it by the next day. But he makes up for it with easy tests.

Amazing professor. Highly recommend him. There are 5 exams and that's it. No homework collected. The guy is ridiculously smart. He can be a little cocky about it but not too much. The exams are basically straight from the homework. I bombed one exam and it screwed me for the year. But every other exam besides that one, i got a B or higher.

With significant experience as a sacristan at the local cathedral, I thought I know about calculus. I can't speak to him about this; not because of my lisp, but because of his brilliance. His class taught me that I know nothing about calculus. He is so helpful smart and even let me, a poli sci and philosophy major, talk near him. SUCH A NICE GUY!!!

It is the third week of the class, and I can already tell how much I am going to like this class. The material is only okay, but Dr. Dougherty has an innate ability to captivate the mind, to ensnare the senses for 50 minutes per day, four days per week.

Amazing class, amazing man. I would take it again and again. If it were offered as a 24-hour lecture each day for the entire semester, I would be the first to sign up. The material is extremely interesting, and interest is only enhanced by his manner of delivery. I believe in god because I believe in Steven Dougherty. I want a hot Steve Dougherty.

He made us do these annoying, time-consuming journals (which weren't all that bad...), and then he decided to grade them as if we were doctoral candidates. But, as an incredible genius, he has that right. I think he just liked criticizing his students. I don't blame him. If I were in his position, I would, as well.

This man has the delusion that he is the greatest person to ever walk the face of this glorious planet on which I live. However, as is usually the case, he is right. In all seriousness, though, abstract algebra isn't easy, and Dougherty is by far the best choice. The class flies by. Pray that he teaches it when you have to take it.

Amazing teacher. Teaches material very well and tests fairly, i eared a 99 average and attended every class, and did every homework. If you don't get an answer right, find out what's wrong or it will come back to haunt you in a test. Very funny and intelligent. I really wish I could have him for every math course.

He's awesome! He doesn't use the book or notes to teach the class, but knows every topic better than the back of his hand. He gives 4 tests, no quizzes, hw not collected. If you do the hw, he takes the exam questions from there. He is extremely helpful, and is always available to help you outside of class. He is also a genius. Take him!

Great Teacher. The material is what it is, difficult, but he is very organized and very willing to help. He's extremely intelligent and it can sometimes be intimidating, but his tests are VERY fair. He gives 4 tests, no quizes, and 1 final worth 2 tests. Definitely one of the best math teachers at Scranton.
