Comment:

HP100 is a great introduction course to the major. Dr. Hoffman touches upon all the specialties of the major through readings, guest speakers, field trips, and group discussion. Attending class is a must in order to do well on the final as all the questions reference past readings and speakers. Relatively, it was an easy class.

Comment:

If you want your time wasted by a man who treats you like a child take Hoffman. I've witnessed the most absurd things in his class. Asking each student if they did the reading, playing guess what I'm thinking, rambling, going off topic for 20+ mins. He has no rubric but tells class how to do an assignment to have TA grade in contradiction. Not ok.

Comment:

I took this class as a 4 week summer class (so a lot of work in a few weeks). While the work load was daunting at times- 4 essays, forums, and quizzes- I learned a lot from this class. Dr. Hoffman responds quickly to questions, gives great feedback, and has very clear expectations for every assignment. If you do the work, you'll be fine.

Dr. Hoffman is a phenomenal teacher. He truly cares about his students and the subject matter. The class is almost entirely discussion with 4 analytical essays. For any Social Studies Education majors make sure to take a class with him. He is a great example of how to be an effective teacher.

Way too many out of class assignments. Gives no time for groups to meet in class. Doesn't return any "drafts" in a timely manner. Feel overwhelmed and stressed out with all the homework and still having to finish all of these projects!

He is a really nice man, extremely helpful. I'm in a history class for university studies and he's in the process of making it more computerized. In that aspect, his class is easier than previous semesters I have heard. Overall, he seems like a very clear teacher who outlines his expectations for his students. If you ever need help or advise on a project, he is more than willing to meet with you to help. I would recommend him for his classes.

He is a really nice and interesting teacher, however, if you are looking for an easy class this would not be it. Tons of Vocab and really long tests, but willing to work with you if you have done badly. So nice though.
