Although he was a somewhat good professor, his midterms were insanely difficult and none of the questions were clear. Although homework was assigned, it was not taken up in class

Newmaster is a great guy, always willing to answer questions and is very clear and easy to follow during his lectures. Biol1070 is also the easiest of the main 3 biology classes, but Newmaster (with Jacobs) was really good. Would def recommend taking the class or taking a class that he teaches.

Friendly guy who knows his stuff and is pretty good at explaining it. Related a lot back to the real world. Rambles a bit sometimes, but overall gets the point across... you can tell he's just trying to make sure he's got everything out there. Midterms and final were tough, but only due to the complexity of the concepts in the course itself.

DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! You do not need the textbook at all! The profs treat you like children but don't offer any help at all with assignments. Really horrible structuring of the course. They made a very interesting topic ridiculously boring.

Great prof. Though BIOL 1070 is a complete joke. Funny and interesting to listen to. I'd love the opportunity to have him as a prof for a better course.

Steve was my best prof at Guelph. His enthusiasm spreads like wildfire. He hooked me up with my first MNR job inventorying plants in the northern boreal forest. He is so approachable and I have actually developed a friendship with him that will last beyond my undergrad. Even if you are unsure whether you like plants you will after taking BOT 2030!

Great teacher! Very knowledgeable about the subject. Class learning is hands-on and practical for later use. If you get a chance and are into plants (who isn't) take a class from Professor Newmaster.
