I worked for this guy, he's a very polarizing figure...rather like Napoleon in many ways must have been for his troops. He'll like you or have complete disdain for you. He likes smart people and hates dumb lazy people.

cannot be contacted by phone because he "can't figure out how to use the voice mail"; doesn't hold office hours; doesn't return email. He teaches directly from the book, literally reads it in class. He doesn't understand the material himself and regularly has to read the book in class to himself to figure it out.

States in class that computer science GPAs are too high. Take his class and help him lower the average.

Seriously, I've taken courses under pretty much every professor at UNCC as a grad student. In my experience, Chalavadi is practically the only one of the lot who can convey their real-world industry experience successfuly. He is hard working and responsive in the classroom. If you want an easy A look elsewhere, but if you want to learn take him!

I agree w/ the previous reviewer-it is a java boot camp. But trust me, OO design is very difficult to learn unless you actual practice it-by writing code. While some students might prefer a more theoretical course, I am not one of them. You can learn the more advanced concepts in grad school.

If you want to learn object design then DO NOT take this course. It is nothing but Java boot camp. All you do is write Java as fast as you can go for 16 weeks. Learning to be a code monkey is what community college is for.

Best prof I ever had. His lecture is tough, but it's helpful and practical when you go to real world. Seems like he loves prople who makes effort. I got all A on listed courses. It does not mean I am smart, just asked lots of Qestions and work extremely hard. Should not take another tough one together in the same time. NEVER TAKE IF YOU ARE LAZY.

This guy has a serious "little-man" syndrome. I wouldn't take this guy if you really didn't have to. Honestly, this guy could have made a better way of teaching students compared to what he does now. Just mind-numbing to hear this guy act like he's ten times his size. Drop him if you can seriously.

This guy likes to find someone to pick on. He will bend the rules for those he likes and stick it to the ones he does not. He is very unfair at times and doesn't give work back on time or at all. Yes you can learn something from him if you are willing to take his punishment. I don't recommend him unless you are advance in all areas of CS.

Do us all a favor, if you are not interested in programming, take other professors. I got hired programming for a company solely based on what I learned from Mr Chalavadi, nuff said. If you are not interested in putting in the effort, or if programming is not your thing, take something else. If you are interested in learning programming, take him.

Why should anyone complain to the department-this is an elective course! It's meant for students who want to actually program-if you're not one of those, be satisfied by the tic-tac-toe programs you do in 1214-2215. Don't expect the teacher to work through your null pointer exceptions and syntax.

Stay away from this professor. He teaches his level 3000 class on a 6000 level. His english is OK but he talks very fast. He is the only one that teaches this class and that needs to be change, so everyone start to complain to the department head about this there should be more than one professor

He is not a good teacher to learn from. He teaches on a grad level and offers no extra help when needed. He does not have an office hour, he sends an e-mail to you 1 hour before he is coming to campus and only stays about 1 hour. He is rude. If you are a beginner to JAVA, don't take his class.
