Comment:

Mrs. Brilhart was very nice and graded fairly, but her lectures on how to speak were not very informative. Telling your students not to take pauses or be unprepared is common sense and should not be repeated before every speech. I never thought she graded unfairly, as I felt like my speeches went against her opinions but were still graded well.

The Professor thinks that extemporaneous is defined as well thought out, planed and practiced; the exact opposite definition. She then takes her definition into the fundaments of her curriculum. There is a good reason why this professor has been part-time for 25 years.

She is a nice lady and likes to make jokes. If you like speech, are outgoing and smart, or took it in high school, you'll do great in her class no problem. If you need to be taught to be a good speaker take it with someone else because background knowledge is probably what got me an A in the class.

How nice she is on grading depends on how much she likes you. If you get on her good side then she won't be too tough of a teacher but if you're not she will give you trouble. Her grading system is extremely harsh. She will give you a 0 on your assignment for some minor mistakes. If you can take from anyone else, DO IT.

She is extremely nice and always willing to help you when needed. But she is a killer when it comes to grading. I ended up getting a B, but that is only because I worked extremely hard.

Overall, this class was a lot easier than what I initially expected. Basically, if you do everything she asks in the beginning i.e. outline speeches correctly, include all required elements in speeches, and turn in homework on time you will be fine. Try to humor her and laugh at her jokes. If you get on her good side you will be fine! Smile!

The first thing you will notice, her annoying way of talking lol...then how she laughs. Pretty weird teacher if you ask me. Whatever she lectures on, try to incorporate that into your next speech. Clearly explains what is expected of in each speech. She really gets annoyed by people who don't try hard. Other than that, she is a pretty good teacher!

GET ON HER GOOD SIDE!!! Do not text in her class, she will kick you out and your grade will plummet. She is funny until she doesn't like you. Class is pretty much miserable. She over exaggerates words and repeats herself all the time. Annoying teacher. She didn't like me, I got a B in the class but deserved an A.

If you can, get a different professor. She is horrible and does not offer help, even when asked. Is very slow to respond to e-mails as well. I was looking forward to this class because I am a Public Relations major, yet here I am at the end of the semester and feeling like I learned nothing.

she grows on u...good teacher...can be picky but she is pretty clear about what she is looking for so just listen and follow...TAKE HER INPUT ON YOUR SPEECHES INTO CONSIDERATION...she looks for your improvement, not necessarily how well you are at public speaking..she is nice and helps out--any COM 115 class is time consuming so dont blame her

Very interesting teacher, she is a very picky grader and seems to like sob stories over good thought out sppeches. Very annoying in lecture, over emphasizes words that should not be and laughs spontaneously over nothing. Very knowledgeable but I would try for a different class...

I think she's a great teacher. I'm absolutely terrified of public speaking and I got an A in her class, so she can't be as hard as everyone's saying. There was a good amount of work but her class was good and structured. We missed an entire week of class but we're still ahead of everyone else.

This class is A LOT of work! She is a really picky grader...don't expect to get an A unless you are an amazing public speaker....and even then it's a slim chance. Very sweet women though. Her speaking habits do get a little annoying but her laugh is very cute. All in all, pretty difficult class.

She is an overall decent teacher. She does get a little picky when grading, but I still managed a B with no problem. As a public speaking teacher, she likes to enunciate her words all of the time and it gets annoying. Sometimes Humorous though.

She is a great teacher but is sometimes too hard to follow. She sticks to the syllabus and the classes where she lecture about the chapters in the book are the worst. Your first speech will be your lowest grade and it will go up from there. I did best on my third speech and got a better grade on my last one, so you can't tell about her grading.
