Comment:
his exam questions are far too ambiguous and open. Instead of putting questions from important parts of chapter, his questions are unknown as something too specific as a diagram or summary of entire section in a question and with so long powerpoint videos!!!! for the first time i am looking at such dense notes so it confuses as how deep to study .

professor is good in explanation. but his slides are way too big and seem like exact replica of the book. if one has slides of a chapter 130 pages long and the book has same chapter in 6-70 pages length, why bother even teaching from the slides??? and this is for every chapter. His questions are so open ended that its extremely difficult to keep up

His assignments were so hard (especially if you do them on your own like me). I don't know where he gets his questions from. His lectures are so boring. His tests are difficult as well. Try to take this course with Jeff Edmonds!

Prof doesn't provide feedback and takes forever to give grades back. His tests are so open ended. I thought his lectures were so boring, hes so monotone. His assignments weren't too hard. Try to listen to him in class even though you might be fighting the need to drift off into a deep sleep.

Very fair prof. Love his midterm and exam. A lot of questions have multiple solutions. If you can give something creative within the theory discussed in class you usually get full marks. Doesn't make you memorize anything, just wants to see you understand what's going on. Assignments are easy. Guaranteed credit with an honest effort.

Lectures were pretty good. Lecture slides could've been better, but if you read the slides from other sections/years along with his, you could skip using the textbook. Assignments/tests/exam were common with James Elder's section and were fair and gave plenty of bonuses.

Great Prof, I really enjoyed the lectures even tho they were 3 hours long, 2011 is notoriously the hardest course in 2nd year cs but with datta I was able to understand the concepts clearly, and his test was reasonable too, assignments were challenging but useful also(we got 3 bonus marks) and exam was really easy as long as you knew your stuff.

I've taken EECS 3101 and Math 1019 with him and he is by far the most caring and approachable prof at York. He doesn't want people to fail his course he wants you to learn and will spend hours much past what any other prof will put in to make sure you succeed. Plus if you actually talk to him he has good stories/life advice.

Professor Datta is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. I had him for discrete math, which is why the difficulty level was so high. However, he takes time out of his schedule to organize study sessions before tests and he genuinely cares about his students. His lectures are extremely informative and he explains concepts very clearly.

Great prof, approachable, willing to help. In return, unforgiving w marking. Slides are from the publisher, so take this as a clue to READ THE BOOK. Assignments are fun and actually practicaluseful but difficult. Except for brief overview, coding for assignments not taught in class. U must be comfortable w coding for assignments. If not, YOUTUBE.

His tests are hard as hell and he almost never uses any questions from the book, so you really need to understand the material if you wanna do well. He's still a really cool guy and will go the distance to make you understand the material. Also, don't_skip_any_of_the_tutorials. Most of the exercises he covers in tutorials show up on tests.

One thing that stands about Mr Dutta is he assesses the situation of the class and change his teaching pace accordingly. He is always ready to help and is very accommodating. Finally he is master of his subject and it is upto the student how they are gonna use their time with him.
