Comment:

Dr. Sikka is a really nice and helpful person one-on-one. He really cares about if you do well or not, and I found him really approachable. However I find he only does examples, if you?re going into math 1000 with out any prior knowledge of calculus you won?t fair out to well. He does have an accent but you can still understand him.

absolutely brutal, cant explain, writes only on one side of the board but even then its not legible. throws up random examples from the text and barely explains them

I switched out of his class because I am not a stong math student to begin with and I could not understand his english that well. He seemed to just put examples up and not show you the steps he took to get there. It was really frustrating.

Comment:

Sikka does have an accent, but he isn't hard to understand. His teaching style however needs a lot of work. He'll write plenty of questions and answers on the board, with little to no explanation of the steps he's taken to arrive at the answer. Tests are difficult, and honestly he doesn't seem to be helpful. Get a different calc prof if possible.

Overall a good professor. His lecture were pretty good. He took time out of his own schedule to help students who were in need. He has a good sense of humour. Lastly I recommend that any student who takes a math course with him, should be reviewing the material he covers. I recommend you to take math tutorial while taking this course.

Not helpful at all during class. This guy just talks and talks and talks - that's not teaching, buddy! I'm a better teacher than you are! And also, please learn to admit when you are wrong. The derivative of a quadratic function is linear - it isn't ever EVER drawn with a curve! :@

Awesome teacher! He even volunteered his time to give us an extra pre-exam tutorial. He showed plenty of examples during class; and every example was clear. Unlike many other teachers who care very little about their students, Sikka wanted his students to excel.

Sikka is the best. You should go to his class just to hear him make calculus jokes. They're lame, but so lame that they're funny. Other than that he's a good teacher who goes out of his way to help his students understand.

I dropped this after a few classes. My concern was that he did not speak English very well, and what I did make out of his ramblings in class seemed pretty random and had little to do with Calculus. He also seemed to have difficulty understanding students

Not only does he teach us calc, but he also offers advice on how to best lead our lives: eat well, study hard, sleep lots, practice yoga, and also to go and visit the Taj Mahal to understand the essence of beauty... great teacher, fabulous person
