Comment:

Dr. Brinson is very nice and I enjoyed her lectures. She likes for people to speak up and participate. DO NOT USE A PHONE IN CLASS. She also is super hard when it comes to testing. Read, read, read, read, and read some more. I don't know how I passed the class, but read the PowerPoints in class and take notes, BUT read the book TOO!

SO SAD SHE'S RETIRING. my absolute favorite teacher i've ever had. i had heard that this class was going to be so hard, but it's one of those classes where you get what she teaches or you don't. definitely a weed out class but in the best way. hate she's retiring, have loved her! so funny, and i've learned so much more in this class than any other.

Comment:

She is a wonderful professor. The course load is extensive, however she posts her PowerPoints on Canvas AND records her lectures. Her lectures are easy to follow and she's good about creating a class discussion and encouraging students to ask questions, etc. She is very approachable. Go to her office hours!

It was actually a great class with a great professor. There is a lot of work to be put into this class. Do the readings, take notes and then rewrite them. She uses relevant examples and that makes the class extra interesting. Go to her office hours, even if you don't think you need help, you do. Speak up during class discussions.

Dr. Brinson is a good teacher, but she assigns a significant amount of work. Get ready to read several articles and chapters for her text. Also, along with the text book there are 2 books to read. She's overwhelming and sometimes doesn't handle things the way she should. She can be rude and extremely intimidating. Go to class! Prepare for a lot.

Overall great class. Encourages respectful discussion in class, even on tough subjects like the election. If you go in to the class with an open mind, you will enjoy it. You will learn a lot by listening in class. Online readings are interesting. Tough attendance policy (you can't even go to the restroom during class). Put in effort, you'll do fine

Arrogant and rude. She forces her political and religious beliefs onto the class and makes it well known that she is VERY liberal. She made me feel inferior since day one. Strongly recommend NOT taking her if at all possible. Not to mention her tests are incredibly difficult.

Attendance is mandatory, you will fail after three absences. Dr. Brinson is a great professor and there is a lot to learn from her. She is very knowledgeable in her field and her class is always entertaining. The test are very hard and there are only three. The reading is very important, you will not do well on the tests if you don't read.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She may be knowledgeable, but here tests are hard and she is arrogant. She also makes it clear that she is a democrat and it seemed as if she was trying to force me to become a liberal with her. She spent and entire class period discussing her religious and political beliefs. Lots of people got up and left. It was horrible

Dr. Brinson unapologetically expresses her religious views and political views in class. I find it unnecessary and unprofessional. She trys to be funny and attempts to make class interesting. Her tests are close to impossible. The only other grades in the class other than tests are the discussions which are also impossible. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!

I LOVE Dr. Brinson's class. This is by far the most interesting class I have ever taken. It is impossible not to find Dr. B's lectures interesting. She is funny, charismatic, and makes the class 10x more interesting. I was scared to take her bc of what people said, but no. If you go to class, pay attention, read the book, you'll get an A. LOVE HER

I actually really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. However, lots of studying is required to make an A, and you need to treat discussion posts like "mini-essays." I recommend seeing her in office hours if you are struggling; she can be very helpful. Don't plan on skipping- after 2 absences, she starts taking percentage points off your grade.

Dr. Brinson is awesome. This has been my favorite class at Auburn, because unlike many teachers, in order to get a good grade in this class, you actually have to learn. I know that doesn't sound fun, but if this class is required for your major, I bet you'll find the material more interesting than you think. Put in the work and you'll be fine!

Dr. Brinson has a reputation for being a difficult professor. This was not my experience. She has been an engaging, clear and no more difficult than is to be expected in a college course. The load was not at all too much and the tests are not awful if you pay attention during lectures. Her class is all lecture, but still very engaging and fun!

Gives no points for participation. Minimal extra credit. Doesn't drop anything. Only 5 assignments, 3 exams and 2 essays. Test are worded to trick you. She called an Academic Hearing for plagiarism and she didn't even think I did it on purpose. Still gave me a 0 and messed me up for the rest of the semester. She can teach, she's just merciless.

If you're hoping for a class where a majority of it is good discussion then you'll like her. If you don't want to write the five paper essay and the exams that are like 8 essay questions based on the lectures and the reading that is like 4 pdf's with 20 pages each then you might not like taking a class with her. There's no text book.
