Dr. Johnston is a great Prof. she really knows her stuff and cares about her students. However she likes to make you read and work and assigns many papers, she calls "daily" assignments.

This is a hard class! The pace, readings and daily assignments make this the most time-consuming class I've ever taken. That being said, Susan Johnston is the best prof I have ever had. She is BRILLIANT. She knows so much, she's hilarious, her lectures are interesting and there's a take-home final. I HIGHLY recommend her to everyone.

Dr. Johnston is a phenomenal professor. She will try to intimidate you during the first class, but if you stick with her for the remainder of the semester it will be the best decision you will have ever made. There is a lot of reading involved, but if you do the reading you won't have any trouble with her class. Oh, and citations are important!

Dr. Johnston is a wonderful lady. She may seem very strict and stern but really she is lovely. She has the best intentions for her students and really pushes them to improve their writing. She is engaging in class discussions that help students to better their understanding of text. Highly recommend.

Though Susan might seem intimidating (most English 100 professors are), She makes it clear about what she looks for in the syllabus, what is expected of you, and the amount of reading/homework you are expected to do. The class may be reading intensive, abit homework heavy. However, if you put in the work, an easy pass with a passionate instructor.

Excellent! Susan's class wasn't easy, but it was certainly very educational and hard work was rewarded. Lectures consisted primarily of discussion, and participation was rewarded. She grades fairly and provides feedback. Lots of work to keep up with readings, but well worth it. Great for ENGL 100, doesn't judge you for what you don't already know.

While her class was challenging + hard work, I am extremely grateful that I got Dr Johnston for ENGL 100. She was completely transparent, communicated all expectations, and readily made time to help with my struggles writing the essays. She provided a complete course calendar and all major assignments on the first day of class. Definitely worth it.

She is a very knowledgeable professor and an easy marker. However, she used inappropriate language including terms referring to body parts and acted in an unprofessional manner. She offered to go over the material with students but failed to follow up. This class revolves around heavy reading and a lot of one-page assignments and can be interesting

Susan is amazing. She's a genius when it comes to her field. She's a serious "deep thinker" but is also very accessible. She presents incredibly esoteric and abstract philosophical concepts but isn't a snooty intellectual. If I can be half as smart as her before I die, I'll die happy.

Fantastic professor! She's passionate, funny and definitely knows what she's talking about. She's always willing to help- and if she specifically offers, you'd better take it. She'll make you work for it, don't take this class just because you're a GRRM fan. You will HAVE to do every reading.

I was already in love with Harry Potter before taking this class and I am even more in love with it now. All of the extra reading was a bit much at times (average 75+ pages per week) but it was always relevant. Class was majorly discussion based but everything that Susan said was insightful into the books and helped me understand them better.

Awesome professor. Although the class is not easy, she gives you a lot of help to get through it. Could not recommend more! :) English is not my favourite, but she made it so interesting that I love it. Other professors must look up to her and follow her lead.

I've taken three classes from Susan and she is one of the best prof's that the U of R has. She's passionate, entertaining, and her classes have the best discussion you could ask for. Half the time my essay's came from these discussions, so if you go to class and join in then your all set.

Clearly those who are giving Susan a bad review are those who didn't care about attending class. Yah, she's tough the first day, but she's trying to weed out those who don't care to be there. She's funny, passionate, and definitely transforms your writing if you do the work and care, First impression, not so great, but you learn to love her!

She might be a little harder then some other prof's but she makes everything very clear and understandable. The class I took should have been dry and boring but she made it fun and interesting, I'm already signed up for another one of her classes!
