GREAT PROFESSOR! This class opened up my eyes! Do not skip class and do not skip the readings if you want to pass! The midterm and finals are both take home essays and the essays are based on many of the speakers she invites to class and what is talked about during her lectures! Do not take these take home exams lightly.

Dr. Murray is a great professor. The readings are very interesting and relevant to the participation assignments. The class consist of a in class mid term, one group project, 10 participation assignments (broken up throughout semester), and a take home final. Make sure you pick good team members because a lot points come from this project.

She is an awesome professor. She definetely makes the course inetesresting. You definetely have to attend class and make sure you take notes because you are responsible for your own notes. She gives out take home tests and if you cannot pass this class with an A then I don't know what to tell you. shes awesome i suggest you take her courses.

Professor Murray is fine, even though she talks a lot about her personal life. Your grade comes down to 2 tests and a final so if you don't do well on even just one of them then you're kinda screwed. There is also no extra credit and when I emailed about my grade she wasn't unhelpful and dismissed it.

The subject matter was very interesting. I took this as a GE to get into upper division Sociology classes. The only thing that decides your grade are 2 tests, a paper, and a final. NOTHING else. So If you do bad on one of those tests, you can say goodbye to an A. Be sure to read the assigned stories, or you will not pass the tests.

Murray treats her students for 001 as freshmen, trying to motivate making this class seem harder than it is. Lectures are very helpful for those who are not good at memorizing Study Guides. Tests are 75% study guide material. Every test will have a "what did dr. murray say in class...." When asking for help she expects you to either know right away

3 tests and 1 paper. You need to go to class to get an A, but can miss alot and still get a b if you go over the reading, which is mostly optional. Dont bother buying any of the text books except for the "basics" one which covers sociology in general, but you can get a different edition than the one she says for a lot cheaper.

You never turn in homework, you'll just need to be aware the info of it for tests. Two exams, one six page paper, & then a final exam. Interesting class when I'm there but attendance is not mandatory.

Don't take Soc 175, at least not with Murray. Was pretty much a class on feminism. Bashed men all the time. Lots of unnecessary class discussions/activities. Work load isn't bad: Journal, Midterm, Final, Poem reading lol. Hard grader, must agree with her POV. Never again.

Participation assignments (attendance is mandatory). One group project (group paper), one midterm, and a take home final. Pros: Professor Murray was extremely approachable. She made class interesting through discussions. Her in class lecture and power points are extremely helpful. Cons: Group Paper and Project was tedious.

For midterms if your answers are not perfect then you fail. Overall her teaching is not as bad as some have said. Although she is not very approachable or helpful during office hours. Depending on your frustration level you may possibly want to avoid taking her. :/

She's an okay professor. Her tests are really easy, I basically slacked off the whole time and got A's on everything. All of the concepts are kind of common sense if you make sure to attend the lectures and kind of go over the reading. She treats her students like they're stupid and don't get the world. But, she might be used to lazy freshman.

Honestly, she gets it! lectures are great, she knows how to talk to students, she does fun activities, her study guides make the tests easy to study for. only 3 tests, all multiple choice, but they can be pretty tough. our class was supposed to have a paper but she cancelled it cause of the furloughs. Take her if you actually want to learn!

This teacher is a biased feminist who tries to make women feel stupid for being in relationships. She is impossible to talk to if your beliefs are not exactly in line with her's. At the start of the class lots of students were participating in discussion. By half way through almost everyone stopped speaking because she was so condescending. AVOID!

She is the main reason I left SJSU!I took her for Soc of modern family... not a man-bashing class. We bashed men and the American traditional white wedding the whole class. I HATED this class!VERY DIFFICULT work, very unreasonable for the time.None of the discussions were on the tests!Everyone in my class was complaining about how she doesn't teach!

This professor was great! I thoroughly enjoyed coming to her class. In a three hour course, there was 1 part lecture, 1 part discussion, and usually we ended with a related video or case study. You definately have to come to class to make sure to get all the information. You'll be able to pass easily if you pay attention and read!
