Comment:

Dr. Doerksen is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches, and she does her best to explain the content and also make it funny. However, if you get antsy during long lectures, her class may not be for you, as she spends most of class time talking. The reading assignments are also often unclear, and she doesn't stick to the syllabus.

I took FYS with Doerksen and compared to all my friends in other FYS classes, we had 10x the amount of work. She's a pretty nice person and can be funny, but I think she expects way too much from students sometimes, especially for an FYS class. Even when you put forth all your effort, you probably won't get the grade you expect. Frustrating.

A lovely person with loads of enthusiasm. Helpful with interesting lectures. Beware, DO THE READINGS. She has a pop quiz for each class and will whip them out when attendance is low or on the first day. One of those professors who believes their class is the only thing students have going on.

I did learn a lot from this class. NEVER recommend her to anyone. Pop-quizzes, midterm/final are about all she grades. I worked for hours on her material and only ended with a B while other proff. wouldn't do anything and they came out with an A. No study guides, must know 50 poems and about 250 vocab words. DON'T TAKE HER. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.

Extremely hard class, every time I ask a question after class she's in a hurry to leave and I never get a straight answer. Her tests are very hard, and her quizzes are stupid. I will never take one of her classes again, and I will never EVER tell someone else to take her class! EVER!

Excellent Professor. One of the best at Mansfield University. Extremely helpful and cares about her students. You must put the effort it, but she is always willing to help. I would recommend her to anyone who is serious about their education.

Very time consuming for an intro level class. If youre not interested in being an english major this may not be the class for you. Lots of reading for every class and tough essay tests. She is a nice teacher and is always willing to help...but its a tough class

Comes to class confident that she knows more than the student, so she comes unprepared and shoots from the hip. She's bright but not brilliant - uses lots of feminist/Marxist buzz-words to daze & dazzle.
