Comment:
Great course and prof overall! I found it very interesting. I got an A in this course and I did the weekly readings (about an hour or two every week), participated in all the discussion posts and assignments, and literally studied the day of the final and midterm and got 80's in both! If you put in effort as with any other course it's an easy a.

Overall the course was what you'd expect, but the participation mark made no sense. Participation is graded based on your quantity of comments made on other students blogs, instead of quality. I commented on 3/4 of the student blogs, taking the time to write out full paragraphs that related to the material: 50% participation mark.

I took SOCI 1000 online with Terry and I found the workload pretty manageable! There was 1 blog you had to write and you had to answer blogs every week, usually 3-4, two 750 word papers and 2 exams. He was VERY text heavy, with not a lot of direction for review but gave really good feed back! No issues with answering questions!

I have never had a prof that was so vague. His syllabus was online, so that is obviously what I went by; but when I passed things in, he always found something wrong- even giving me a zero- changing what was said on the syllabus. I also joined a few weeks late, and gave me a 0 on something that I wasn't even in the class for to know about. Awful.

Take this course online if you can!!!! only 2 exams which are all multiple choice and true or false, one blog post and then replying to all blogs once a week (about 4 blogs) with a paragraph! There is also 4 questions due (2 at one time) at a certain time but if you pass that time he wont grade it :/ overall good prof!

Most inconsiderate prof I've ever had. He made a mistake in the syllabus so I emailed him to confirm a due date, submitted the assignment on the due date, but in his email he failed to mention that the assignment was due by a specific time that day. I submitted the 10% assignment an hour late and he refused to accept it. Rude and uncaring man.

Comment:
This prof expects too much for an entry level course. Asks very particular questions that only a professional would know the answer in the detail he wants. Prepare to work for your grade. He also asks you to write an essay style question on midterm and asks for two on your final exam in 6 paragraph form.. also deducts marks for punctuation.

This prof expects far too much for a first year course. I took this course as an elective and regretted it. I have put less work into third year science courses and attained better marks. Avoid if possible.

Comment:
This professor grades way too hard, especially for an introductory course. I have done more work in SOCI 1000 than what was required in BIOL 1001 and 1002. The expectation was unclear, with on average 8 multi-paragraph discussion posts per week, 2 papers, 1 blog post (5 paragraph plus citation), and 2 exams. I would not recommend this professor.

Pretty disappointed with this prof. Expects way too much from a first year course and when approached to explain low grading offered little insight. Avoid if possible.

Sociology 1000 is always a pleasure to attend. Even though it's a night class and it's 2.5 hours long, Terry makes it worth it. Really intelligent and articulate guy, and very knowledgable about every topic he teaches. There's a lot of reading to do but the fascinating lectures make up for it, I'd highly recommend him to anyone.

Terry is an amazing prof! I've had him twice during my degree, and he was excellent for both courses. Keeps your attention, answers questions coherently, and encourages discussion. If you can do a class with him, GO for it :)

Really nice guy, tries to help you out in any way he can. Very fair marker, exams aren't too bad if you study (pay more attention to the text, because the questions come from the text, not so much from the notes). The m/c can be tough, but if you know the material in the text really well, you'll do fine.
