Prof. McRae is a very nice person, but when it comes to lecturing and being and actual professor, it is a little hard to choose words. This class is a lot of work, paper and homework (online). There are quizzes due (which take a lot of time) and her labs are also stressful. DO NOT take other upperclass courses and Bio1 at the same time.

This difficult class to take during the summer session; 2 chapter are covered each class and a quiz or test daily each class. She does her best to ensure you understand the material. Take advantage of asking questions, she will answer them. Gives great advice and very understanding. Student success is very important to her. Be prepared to work

She will do anything in her power to help you out! She is an incredibly dedicated teacher and is so kind to all students! This class is hard as intro bio packs a lot of info. I am very blessed to have had her as a teacher she takes her job seriously and knows her material, lectures are very well explained.

Honestly one of the best courses I have ever taken over the summer. Dr. McRae is passionate about biology. Doing the hw is tedious but it prepares you for the quizzes/exam. If you didn't do well in that category then you'll have the chance to redeem your grade on exam 5 and the final(she takes the best the score out of the 2 for your overall grade)

In the past, I struggled in bio and was discouraged. Professor McRae built me from the bottom up and encouraged me to not be so afraid of it anymore. I'm not saying this class is easy, but you need to work tremendously and even harder if you take it during the summer like how I did. Take advantage of her study sessions, SI and tutoring!!!

I have to admit that Dr. Mcrae is tough, but there wont be a day that she wont help you. Go to her office and get help from her if you are having difficulties. she would never give you negative feedback and is very understanding. Bio 1 is tough but she would always shows you lots of ways how to pass it. I respect her a lot.

she is available during office hr. Don't be timid to asking any material you haven't understand at the first place, she will reteaching to you. btw, she is very patient and passionate. the way to get A: draw all the diagrams from ppt on separate sheets, learn from mastering biology video, go to office hrs, do problems on the back of each chapter.

Cons: Assigns 300+ pgs of hw, doesn't let you know which will be collected, only collects about 20 pgs, doesn't follow syllabus, quizzes&tests are VERY difficult, tests are cumulative Pros: very knowledgeable, helpful, checks labs before turning in, final grade is based on the highest grade between last test&final (said she might discontinue this)

Not an easy class. Homework, online is super hard and doesn't help on test. Test are worth 80% and are not that difficult honestly as long as you go to her office hours for help and actually study *the notes and chapter summary* you should be good. Must pass lab practical. Need to dedicate all of your time to this class just to get a C NO JOKE!!

This is the worst class I have every taken! I love science, so that's saying something. Homework is at least 6 hours long, and she really makes you study. It was really frustrating that she never collected the homework and the lectures were fast. The tests were too challenging. The study guides didn't help. I ended up dropping the class.

Tough professor in the beginning. You will have your work cut out for you, But about halfway through the semester she got really easy and lenient. as long as you participate in labs and do your homework you have a chance to pass till the end.

It was definitely a very hard class! Expect a lot of homework. Exams and quizzes are not easy. Only memorizing information would not help, you have to understand the concepts. Try to study every time you have the chance, since exams are cumulative and trying to study 23 chapters in a few days is impossible (last exam and final were 23 chapters).

There was a lot of homework in this class, but getting an A is totally doable. Dr. McRae is so great and you end up retaining almost all of the information in this class just because of how it is set up. Just do all your work and use the concept logs/PPTs to study for the exams and you will be fine.

BIO 1 was the hardest class I have ever taken, but McRae knows that, so she tries to help her students succeed by assigning lots of worksheets and online hw. Know your amino acids! Never skip a lab session because she hands out important stuff during those times. McRae proofreads your lab write-ups before you turn it in online. She's very kind.

She is very professional. But she keeps a friendly relation between herself and the students. She is there to help, and she wants to help. Lecture is heavy and important, SI plays a big role, tons of homework, and make sure you download and study her powerpoints. Grading criteria makes things much easier, you will see what I mean when you enroll.

Dr. Mcrae is an awesome prof. She is one of the great prof.'s at SJDC of the few. She is extremely helpful when you need her. She will go over things you don't understand and will give you heartfelt advice. I would love to take her class all over again. Study her lectures and record them it helps. Bottom line don't slack off,you will be fine!

Amazing professor, super helpful. Not at all an easy class but I received an A. Just read the text book and take good notes as well as study your previous tests and you'll do fine. The lab work is extra important if you don't do so well on tests. Otherwise pretty fun class I really enjoyed it. Make sure to have a study group.

Look out for the numerous homework assignments, the cumulative exams (there's 6 total and gradually increases in difficulty), the iClickers (Attendance is a must), and her lectures can be a tad dry. Attend SI or form a study group cause this class is tough. However, she is extremely helpful and deeply cares for her students, and her help is useful!
