Professor Avery is an elderly man who is caring and respected by students. His class is very easy because you are graded by 2 open book essays and 7 quizzes throughout the semester, and he drops 2. His class was easy going. The lectures and his way of playing devil's advocate really made the students question their thoughts and decisions. Take him!

Thanks to him I think clearly about everything I encounter and question research things critically. He is funny and the workload is light. The greatest PHIL professor to live among us. His status is that of an OG. Scientists are baffled as to how he could achieve the intellectual level of Socrates in this time period. STOP READING THIS ANDTAKE HIM!

Great professor, read the material and you will pass this class. participating in the debates/class discussions is fun, this course is basically philosophical discussions on medical moral and ethical decisions and thoughts. Prof. Avery makes it a lot of fun and usually plays the devils advocate. Would take him again for sure!

Most of the class will be about the readings, so if you don't like reading, don't take this class. He likes to do a lot of debates, and is a very lenient grader. He gives quizzes often, and the midterm and final were fairly easy.

Great professor, very understanding and hilarious. He cracks a plethora of jokes and strongly encourages debates. If you do the reading that he assigns it's impossible not to get a good grade. Just a really cool person in general. Also he's very well read. It shows when he alludes to many outside readings.

Was the class i looked forward to going to the most this semester. Great professor, encourages debates/opinions. Gives extra points if you participate in discussion(however its still possible to get an A if you don't) His great quote is that we have "youth and enthusiasm" but he has "trickery and deceit" Read the book & participate for an A.

Dr. Avery is a very cool professor! He makes jokes that make the class lighten up and always sparks interesting philosophical debates during class, which also helps us get a better understanding of the concepts and ideas. His quizzes are from his required textbook and his midterms and finals are similar in format and are clear in instructions.

He is an okay professor. 7 quizzes, each of which comes from the reading so you MUST read in order to pass. Midterm and Final are essays and is open booked. Downside, He talks slow and the class is SO boring. Couldn't wait to get out of class every time! Grading policy is fair. He drops the two lowest quiz grades. Chapters are LONG and Confusing!

Professor Avery is a good teacher. Much better than most there. The class was interesting but you have to give it a true try. In order to do well in the class, you must READ, plain and simple. His test questions (including ESSAY) come straight from his recommended readings. Good Luck...I received an A and I'm no Philo. major.

Highly recommend. Great professor and his lectures were very interesting. You have to read books because he gives a lot of questions from reading books. Participation in discussions isn't mandatory, so if you are really shy - this is a chance for you to get an A. Just read.

Prof. Avery is as good as it gets when it comes to being knowledgeable of topic material, igniting the students ability to think critically and is able to tell you the truth while making you laugh. I had him last semester and the only people who say the class is boring are those who don't participate. The topics are juicy if you engage yourself.
