He's very thoughtful in his instruction, thinking about the artistic abilities of each of his individual students while helping them. He explains concepts well and doesn't get upset if you struggle with a method. What I like most about him is that he genuinely cares about his students and their well-being.

Great instrutor and nice class but he does get picky at the end and he grades tought. So just make sure you put the most effort on the assingments and follow his guidelines carefully because he will drop alot of points!

Mr Dowling is the man! very chill guy and knowledgeable and he is a great drawer. His class is easy and interesting but you must show your work and follow his guidelines carefully because he does get picky at the end and grades a little harsh but other than that its a great class. I learned alot of great skills from him

Tom is SO nice. Honestly one of the nicest professors I've had at OCC. I learned so much about painting from him, he's very knowledgeable. His voice is a little soft while he does lectures so listen up. Great experience with him.

He is a nice teacher. He helps students every time we need. A lot of work to do, but helpful because the more you draw the better you get. If art is your life, you won't feel drawing make u tired. I learn a lot and improve my drawing skills. Before taking class, I couldn't draw, after that, I can draw , and draw faster. I also can draw hands.

This class was difficult and a lot of money wasted. I thought it was going to be easy since its a beginner class but he graded you hard. You have to put a lot of time into this. However you can leave whenever you want. I also do feel like he does have favorites so it's unfair. In the end I passed this class with a C.

I learned barely anything about painting in this class but more about what my style was. Originally I was offended when he so harshly critiqued my first set of four paintings, but later when I thought back on it, he really had nothing bad to say about them except execution and technique. I ended up redoing them all for an A in the class :)

IDK about all the negetive comments, he does not have favorites and he does not have a bad attitude. He is very straight forward on assignments and you dont have to be an amazing artist to pass. why some cannot pass this class is beyond me. just make sure you turn in the portfolio and youre good to go. Dowling is a very good professer and does care

My friend told me about this class and how easy it was; but i just took his class last semester and god! he plays favoritism! If he likes you, then you will be earning an A even if your drawing doesn't even look like what its supposed to, and if he does not like you then he'll drop your grade for no reason

Very interesting class. You actually learn and gain new experience on your art skills. DO NOT SKIP CLASS because it's so easy to fall behind!!!! He is not strict about attendance, which makes it easier to skip class but it will affect you in the end!! Overall, chill class just do your work and show improvement.

Great teacher with a lot on his plate so if you need his help you need to approach him to get his attention. Very knowledgeable about art and has a lot of connections in the art world. The class was challenging- he has mostly repeat students who are very talented which was intimidating but overall one of the best classes I've ever taken at OCC.

Tom is the nicest teacher you will ever have. He is extremely passionate about art and shows that through his teaching. He was very helpful and gave great tips on how to improve my drawings. The class became very close and everyone looked forward to showing up. The honors class was no different from the regular class except we had to write a paper.

Beginning drawing. He was great. Class is layed back. Doesnt care if you come late just as long as your caught up with your work. Very helpful. i have never taken an art class and was intimidated the first day, but hes a great teacher. i learned a lot and learned that i can actually draw!

Well. He is quite strict. Being late can get you dropped, and if it is the first day, you may be already dropped. He has a lingering voice, where he would say unnecessary things rather than going straight to the point. Quite disappointing Professor, I was looking forward to learning something from him.
