I took BIO500 with Dr. G in Summer 2018 and he was so great! I had heard from other people that BIO500 was really hard, but he made it seem so simple. The class was only 3 weeks long, all exams were open-note, and hardly any homework. Taking this class in the summer was the best choice! He is so down-to-earth. Definitely take him if you can!

Dr. G is my favorite professor in the department. He is very caring, willing to help, respectful, and really just wants his students to do well. He encourages a lot of peer discussions to get us to think outside the box.

I took BIO500 as a 3-week course in the summer and Dr. Gehring was so awesome! I was expecting this course to be really difficult, especially in just 3 weeks, but he actually made it pretty easy. He's such a nice guy and he made lectures very interactive and fun. If this course is offered again in the summer with him, I would highly recommend!

If you can ever take a class with Dr. Gehring, I highly recommend it. He is easily the best professor in CMUs biology department and is the most grounded of them all as well. Extra credit opportunities along with group discussions are available sometimes. He truly enjoys teaching and thats the best thing about it.

Comment:
He is extremely knowledgeable in wildlife biology. You need to work for your grade, nothing is clear cut and spelled out for you in this class. There was no text book which was great but was made up in having to discuss scientific papers. As long as you pay attention and put forward effort, you will learn a lot and do well.

Super laid back during lecture and tried to keep the content interesting. Exams were impossible to do well on unless you attended class and did the assigned readings from the textbook. Offers random extra credit to be put towards exam grades. Class is easy but you do have to put work in to get a good grade.

Good prof, seems enthusiastic about the subject and will answer questions for you if you need help. Attendance is kind of mandatory; PowerPoints are online but don't have all the notes and he will often explain in detail what he expects you to know during lecture. A couple extra credit opportunities. Will do review sessions in class before tests.

Pretty average teacher. Tests aren't extremely difficult but not super easy either. You don't need to read the book except for the very specific pages, so I'd recommend buying the eBook to save money. PowerPoints posted before every class and he doesn't really add much to them. I went to class half the time and ended up with a B in the class.

A great instructor that tells you how it is in the real world and prepares you for what's out there. All of his lectures are very informative and the labs are all hands on and spectacular. Very good looking and smells really good too.

Well, he is definitely sexy, that's for sure. His tests are a little difficult because there is SO much information, BUT he does not give any homework. GO TO EVERY CLASS because he has random quizzes and you absolutely need to be there for them...he gives you all the answers usually.

Explains everything very well and all of his questions on the tests are off his power points. However, his tests are hard because they cover a lot of material. There is no homework which is nice. There is no attendance policy because it is a lecture hall, but there are a few random quiz that you cannot afford to miss.

Tom is HOT! His lectures are easy just take all the notes off of the powerpoints he posts on his website. However, the tests are pretty hard. He seems to give very general information in lecture and when it comes to the exams they're more specific.

His lectures can be kinda boring and he tends to get off topic, but he's very helpful if you go to him during office hours. He also offers lots of extra credit. He tests aren't easy, but they're not real difficult. If you study before exams, you'll do fine.

This class covers interesting subjects but Dr. Gehring somehow seems to make them boring. Very hard to stay awake in class. I would suggest skipping. There aren't in-class assignments and there isn't required attendence. Tests can be difficult so study the notes he posts on Blackboard every week.
