Comment:
If you have never taken a cs 111 class, I wouldn't recommend this professor. He talks a bit fast and assumes that you know what he is taking about. The one good thing is he makes an effort to see you during office hours if you need any help.

Having no prior knowledge of CS, I struggled in Thu's class. A lot of kids go to other profs because every cs111 teaches the same thing and they think the other profs are better. Thu is very knowledge and willing to answer questions even though no one ever really does

He is an overall good professor. BUT, if you don't have a background( even a little bit) in CS he may be more difficult than expected. He goes DEEP into the why of Computer Science and the logic of code, interesting to learn (and useful later in CS), but unnecessary for 111. Office Hours are very helpful, and he genuinely cares about students.

Speaks way too fast, especially in a beginner level course. Not recommended for 111.

Thu is really a great professor in OS field. He's class is passionate. If you are interested in OS and eager to learn more about OS, CS519 is suitable for you. But if you are not so interested in OS or have a weak background in OS, you won't catch up with him in class. And the programming assignment is a little bit difficult.

A pretty good teacher overall. His assignments and exams are very challenging. In the end there was a generous curve. He will push you hard to do the work. Don't expect to slack off at all. However its good that he pushes you since you will learn the subject well in the end. Very helpful in office hours too.

He speaks pretty fast but he's always very clear on what he said. CS211 isn't as bad as people say if you take it with him. Do the work! If you do that you're fine. Probably went to 10 lectures throughout the whole semester and ended up with a B+.

How can Thu get a bad rating? This is one of the best CS professors there is. Yes he pushes the students hard, he explains this day one. His projects are HARD but exams are fair and he is a great lecturer and very helpful. This is what a 400 level course should be. And if you have the time to stick with it, you will come out really understanding OS

Good teacher, but CompArch is not his field. If you have research interests in CompArch, then take the course with a prof who knows the subject better. OTOH if you are taking it as a refresher course, go ahead.. but he does tend to make the course entail a lot of work.. Exams are open book and easy!

Great professor, only worth while one in entire department. Take him. He is challenging and will have you coding parts of the Linux Kernel, but it is great and it will be the only CS class you take where you learn anything at all. Better than all the rest

Great class to take IF you want a challenge. The exams are very straight-forward if you understand the material (open note/book exams!). Thu is very helpful in and out of lecture. Projs are really cool but long. Take this class only if you have ample free time to work! Not an easy A but VERY doable.

his projects are insane. take these warnings serious. some of our projects we get can be found in 500 level courses. the other sections don't have as harse a time as we do in his class. for the love of all that is holy, don't take his section.
