I LOVE DR. B!!! He's a very tough grader, but it is only to make sure that you know what you are doing and actually UNDERSTAND the material, not just regurgitate info on an exam. HE'S AMAZING. If you want any future in the healthcare field, take him.

I transferred out of ballards class after the first week because a spot opened up in a class that better fit my schedule but I regret it because I could tell in the first week that he was an amazing lecturer and professor. Def need the book for 240 and 241 (I have them both if you wanna buy it from me for cheaper 919.441.9629)

Dr. Ballard is without a doubt the best professor at UNCW. We are incredibly lucky to have him. If you want to go to MD, PA, or nursing school, taking him is a must!! He speaks the language of A&P with extreme fluidity and his lectures are lively. You must be willing to listen to his advice and put the work in for studying. LOVE HIM!!!!

Comment:

Ballard's lectures are fantastic but his tests might possibly be the most difficult tests to ever be created. Having to take his tests aren't worth having his lectures. Just save yourself if you can for next semester because he's retiring after spring 2018.

Dr. Ballard is great, and his class was the hardest I've taken (I was proud of myself for earning a B). He looks at his students not as students, but as future healthcare professionals, and he's genuinely passionate about the material and helping you understand it. He has definitely influenced my career; I believe I'll be a better nurse due to him!

This is without a doubt the hardest class I have taken. Ballard is a very nice professor and is always willing to help out. However, he makes the class way to hard with his tests. They are almost impossible unless you devote every waking minute outside of class to study. I studied for hours every day and still finished with a D in the class.

Dr. Ballard is by far one of the most intelligent humans I have ever come across. He is a phenomenal teacher. However, his A&P 1&2 classes were easily the most difficult classes I've ever taken. Be prepared to work your butt off constantly if you want a good grade. If you want to take your learning to a whole new level, take Ballard! It's worth it!

Anatomy is going to be hard no matter who you take it with, and Ballard really makes you study and work to get good grades in his class. However, if you really want to learn anatomy Ballard will make you it.

Dr. Ballard is insanely knowledgeable on the human body. The guy is pretty funny in class and he makes the lectures enjoyable. The midterm exams were tough, but if you study for them you'll be okay. The final exam was the hardest thing I have ever taken. You really have to love anatomy to put yourself through this class. It is worth it though.

Great teacher, definitly the hardest tests I've ever taken but well worth it. I take pride in taking his tests because i know they are the hardest and my A means so much more because of it. Get ready to work your tail off, lots and lots of studying!

Dr. Ballard is an AMAZING teacher. He clearly knows what he's talking about, answers any and all questions, and does a great job of keeping class interesting. That being said, he is not joking when he says you will have to work hard for your grade. His tests are tough but not impossible. He also does exam replacement with the final which is great!

Dr. Ballard is an amazing professor. If you are not willing to work hard (like you should in college anyways), do not take his class because the class is designed for people who are serious about joining the medical field. He gives you all of the resources to be successful, but it's up to you to take advantage of that. Great professor!

Great teacher. Impossible tests. Even when I read the book, went to lecture, studied, and watched extra online lectures, I still got C's on exams. And spending so much time on this class made other grades suffer.

Dr. Ballard tells you on the first day of class that this will be the hardest grade you've ever worked for. If you look at the negative reviews, most of them are simply because the reviewer didn't want to work hard. He gives you all of the resources needed to be successful, it's up to you to work for it. The only thing he can't do for you is study.

Great professor. He knows everything so well and is very helpful to his students. Biggest problem is that this class is so far from an easy A. The tests are insanely hard and the class is insanely hard. He curves the finals grades, but be prepared to be studying anatomy all the time.

Very challenging but teaches everything that you will need to know to make you feel confident in your understanding of how and why the body works the way that it does. Highly suggest if you are taking the course because YOU want to take it.

I think Ballard is an absolute genius, but might be too smart to teach lectures to students in the simplest way possible. Definitely makes you work harder, study longer, and read more than any teacher will do in this university. Not sure if I would recommend him to someone who feels intimidated by the university setting.
