Ridiculously easy. I had little to no resistance getting in. He looks at us and says, "okay, next." Excellent with communication and oral skills. A true father figure. The foot stuff is a little weird, but it's marching band so to be expected I guess. Rhythmically adept.

He's overall okay. But in general, he could use a bit of an update with popular songs and things that will get the students and fans excited. You have to go to practice and to games, that is not optional. Also wish woodwinds could travel :(

Prof is a really nice guy but i think he needs to go back to school to relearn new strategies on how to conduct a rehearsal. gives all the love to brass and drumline. doesnt write drill accordingly (putting clarinets BEHIND trumpets??). writes shows that arent interesting or something everyone knows. basically nice but out of date.

He's good with administration but is very unhelpful with conflicts outside of Marching Band. He doesn't give a whole lot of exemptions for other classes or conflicts that arise. (if you don't go to a band event you may fail Marching Band) Also if you want to travel to away games make sure that you are a Brass or Percussionist otherwise you don't go

Not great with communication. Doesn't seem to fully understand the needs of a marching ensemble. Erotic. Good with administration stuff, and has gotten many opportunities for the band. Someone could definitely do the job better though.

At times, Marching Band can be very frustrating with this professor. Some rehearsals don't run as smoothly, but overall it is the best experience I have ever had with a Band, thus far. He is very good at administration and we did so much this year such as victoria secret and the super bowl. Overall this band will keep growing as we get into the B1G

I don't know what band was like before, but this semester it was really awesome! We had staff helping everything and Prof. Smith was the central leadership. He seemed very fatherly and I felt after this year we have really become "The Pride of NJ". Our shows are entertaining, our practices run smoothly, and our performances are great!

Professor Smith is by far the worst band director I've ever had the displeasure of working under. The Spanish Fantasy show bored the crowd AND the students. The fact that we were forced to learn an entire show in 1 week was ridiculous. He doesn't stick to his own rules, and I am actually embarrassed to admit to being in the marching band. FIRE HIM!

Iv'e read the other reviews on here and am kinda shocked. I guess the Band has just gotten better over the years. Realistically, this ensemble is for people of medium experience, not hot shots going for their performance dgree, and Tim Smith designs the course around that bulk of people in te middle the way it should be. And he is very enthusiastic

Prof Smith is a very nice man. However, he does not command attention like Prof Bott or Dr Williams. Musicality is hampered by blatty tubas, biting trombones and weak trumpets. Drill is written with no concept of spacial relationships. He does not call people out for being wrong three months into the season. We want Prof Bott!

Clarity, precision, excitement, intensity, and dynamic control: everything this man disregards with the RU marching band. Unclear with his commands, overly loud brass and percussion. No musicality--something that should really be worked on by SECTION LEADERS and members alike. Pride of New Jersey? Give me a break, Mr. Smith. Must be fired. NOW.

Thought he sucked before, still think he's not very good. So far this year's been better than the past. He's been a little bit more accessible and a tiny bit less political. A problem is the university needs to give marching band students more credits for the level of work and the amount of time this class eats up but he still screw students over

ive never rated anyone on here, but i feel inclined to save your souls. i like mband & pep band, but his "system" SUCKS. all the people that gave this man positive ratings.. were obviously brass players. doesnt know how to follow his own rules. doesnt know how to write drill; sucks at being director. nice man though, but please RU, hire someoneelse

What a great football season so far! The band is so dedicated this year. Professor Smith made so many excellent changes this year that have pushed us to be better than we have in any of my first years. I came to Rutgers because of the marching band and I am so happy I did!

Put very simply, Prof Smith took both the marching and pep bands to new levels since he has been here. I saw both bands when I visited the school and chose Rutgers over Penn State, Syracuse, North Carolina, and 3 other schools. You people who are saying he is not good, clearly do not know how good you have it.

This guy cares more about reputation with Athletics then for the students who work for him. Anytime something comes up last minute, he will try to guilt you into saving his ass. Maybe if he was a better director to begin with, people might do things for him alot easier rather then have to be dragged tooth and nail to do it.

This guy sucks so freaken much. WHO THE HELL GAVE HIM A DEGREE?!? It's beyond me how the hell athletics hasn't figured out how bad this guy is. Is his head that far up their ass that they refuse to let him go? How can they allow this man to represent Rutgers UNIVERSITY with this sub-par, elementary school crap drill and music.
