Not an art major and still enjoyed the class a lot. Easy going guy and funny too. Really simple to understand the material. Don't even need the book. All you need to do is to take good notes in class, and repeat everything he says on the exam, then you should get an easy A or B.

Dr. Smith is awesome! He makes lectures more interesting with his jokes and little stories. He's a cute guy with great fashion sense. Most of all, he is VERY clear in what he expects of you during exams and in your papers. There's discussion, which is always fun! Highly recommended!

I wouldn't call this prof. a picky grader, rather, he just seems to want a lot of detail BECAUSE he provides a lot of detail. He's easy to approach if you don't understand the material. But I especially liked the fact that he knows little side stories to amplify the background of certain pieces. Take good notes, and you'll be fine.

he's the most *pretentious* guy i've ever seen; for that reason alone i wont take him for another class even if it was free. keep in mind that smith's a very tough ("picky")grader. take him and u will see what i mean. as for his knowledge, i think it's a bit overrated. i learnt far more from other sources than his notes. i give him a "C" grade.

Such a wonderful professor! Very, very nice man, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. Uses personal stories and pictures which enhance lectures. Tests are difficult, but if you take really good notes and go to class, you'll be fine. Highly recommended!!

The nicest guy in the world award! He is so helpful with everything! TAKE REALLY GOOD NOTES!Those are all you will need on tests! The class is challenging but the reward is well worth it. Art 102 - 1 paper, 2 tests. Don't buy the book! Take good notes and listen. He drops hints for test durring lectures. Interesting, well traveled guy - tells about his own expirences in different countries, and a lot of the time the slide pictures are his own personal photos that he took! Awesome.

I think it was unprofessional of him to not grade the two short papers we had to write in the whole quarter. Except for the midterm, we really did not know what we were getting in the class. The class was very interesting but the tests were hard.

It was a very interesting class and you learn a lot. He is extremely smart and doesn't even teach off notes. You CANNOT MISS CLASS. His tests are nearly impossible. Be prepared for a serious challenge.
