He's intimidating at first, but if you relax and learn to smile and laugh at his jokes, his class is great. You just need to remember to ask questions if you don't understand fully and be on your toes. He's not as scary as he seems. I hated the class at first but when we finally got used to him (which took a fair while) it was an awesome class!

I was terrified of this class at first, but once you start to get the hang of it it is great. I looked forward to going every week. Ask questions and take good notes and you will do fine on the midterm and final. Had no interest in GLST before taking this class, now I'm minoring in it..

Very helpful professor. I admit his teaching style is a little in your face and to the point, but this should not be taken personal. He does not make fun of other cultures or put people down, and if it may seem that way its all part of his master plan to get you thinking.

I honestly thought I would do terrible in this class. He lectures the whole hour, and I think the reason I got an A was because I did pay attention, asked questions, and commented. As long as you take an interest and try to understand, I think you will be fine.

Great prof. He makes you think in very different ways, and presents some pretty controversial stuff in a new light. By far my favorite prof this semester - very funny, very intelligent, and very forward-thinking. TAKE THIS CLASS!

I took his GLST class and slept the whole first half of the semester because it was so incredibly boring. Easily a 300 level class. He expects a lot out of his students and picks on every student at some point. There's no homework, just a midterm and a final but you really need to know about politics and world issues to know the class.

Very very interesting class. He is kind of intimidating, but it's not so bad. I learned more in this class than from any other class. Take him. Virtually no homework. 2 essay tests, open book/notes.

The 1st two weeks i thought i'm going to completely fail this class..However, once you really try to understand him he makes so much sense! I LEARNED ALOT by the end of the semester!Very unusual professor. If you want to learn smthng take his class.. Asks questions randomly, try to at least say something other than "i don't know".

He is a horrible professor. He will put you on the spot infront of the class and make you feel completely stupid. He also says how stupid st.cloud students are. I learned nothing from his class at all!

I really enjoyed this class. I'm a really sensitive person and I did just fine. He is a really interesting man who has done some awesome things in his life. He wanted us to learn and he looked at our effort vs just our test scores. I didn't do A worthy on everything but still walked out with an A because he could tell that I comprehended the class

Interesting guy..You will learn to open your mind. I had this class figured out the first day and thought this teacher was incredible. He tells you to write abstract papers on the book, which his friends wrote and encourages alternative views. That is were the problem begin if you don't agree with him - I was totally sold out in the end grade wise.

Horrible man, I dropped the class. Did not like the way he spoke of his past students, I did not want to be a part of that. He is crabby and likes to hurt others emotionally, I think he gets a kick out of it. Please let him actually retire! I have to take 250 to graduate, wont take it with him!

I do not think I would ever take his class again. He was very disrespectful and it was a horrible class. Yes he did make us think but not quite sure what we were thinking of... we all were told that we were too stupid to write papers and SCSU is a stupid school. As long as you attened class and read you will probably pass...

He is the worst professor anyone could have. He is proud of how many people he can make cry in one class period. He is 100% degrading to his students, and "he can't wait to teach at a university with smart students." (according to him that is a private institution) I dredded going to class on a weekly basis. Negitive about everything. Avoid him!!!

I like to call this guy Shamus. Shamus O'Toole. He is shady and the worst teacher I have taken. Turned me off from the whole ANTH dept. Good luck if you are taking him. He thinks he is of every nationality also...haha. What a joke.

While i agree with what others have said about Dr. O'Toole, that he did test with essay and made me think about a few things differently. I do not like him at all as a person. He would cut his students down for getting a wrong answer and would never teach what he needed because he was too busy making fun of different cultures. Do not take him...

I was very interested in this class and at times I even enjoyed the class, however, I found Dr. O'Toole difficult to work with. He says one thing and then does another--again, VERY difficult! While I find he teaches material I am very interested in, I would NEVER take another one of his classes--he is too difficult to work with.
