Prof Semm really knows his stuff. His tests can be a bit tricky but makes you think critically. He's a great professor who cares about his students. Funny and hilarious. He offers extra credit and if you do it, you can definitely earn about 5-8% more on your total grade.

Professor Semm really cares about educating his students on the importance of the collective power and more in his social problems class. I have never really realized how ignorant and blind I was until I took this class! Read, attend class, and do the study guide and you'll pass.

I LOVE professor Semm. Although I only took his 100 level intro to social problems, I plan to take his higher level class in the future. He made class so enjoyable. His sense of humor and passion makes it easy to learn. I accidentally missed his final, and he still let me take it afterwards. He is an amazing professor and I will miss this class.

Semm is by far one of my favorite professors I have taken at State. His sarcasm, humor, and passion for the subject makes me want to go to every class even though attendance isn't mandatory. His tests are pretty tough though and have a lot of trick questions. Even though his test are hard, I would take him again in a heartbeat.

The class requires taking notes as well as watching videos and some textbook to do well on the exams. However he is probably one of the most engaging and passionate lectures I have ever had. I would highly recommend the class

Prof Semm is the living embodiment of social passion and a force to be reckoned with at SDSU. Listen carefully to his words, and take heed to be the change you want to see in the world today. My only criticism is I wish he lectured more and watched less John Oliver segments (I found john to be tad annoying). Thank you so much Prof Semm!

I have never learned so much about actual world problems in a class then I did in Soc 102. Utterly fascinating, if not a bit depressing. Semm knows his stuff and makes sure his students do too. Do the extra credit, take notes during class and you'll be fine.

Absolutely LOVED his lectures and he's extremely passionate about his topic. Not only that, but he's really funny and engaging. If you don't enjoy brutal honesty and playful sarcasm, then don't take this class. But if you DO, I highly recommend taking this class. Can't recommend him enough!

Professor Semm is genuinely one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had. The subject matter he covers is extremely interesting and important to know especially in our current societal and political climate. Tests are easy as long as you study, we rarely have homework and we're are given opportunities for fairly easy extra credit.

If you want to know that reality of the world we live in, this course will give you the right idea and will guide you towards that path. The class was based on notes and READINGS. 3 exams, maybe extra credit. On tests, if all answers look or seem to be all true, then the answer is all of the above/ TRUE.

Not sure why Professor Semm has such great reviews. As a person all around, he's a great guy. As a professor, he is extremely disorganized, his outlines make no sense and don't help with his difficult exams. He gets distracted from the lecture much too often so you don't end up learning anything. Also, you won't pass without reading ALL the books.

Professor Semm is a great lecturer. He is angry at social problems and passionate about social change. Only negative thing is that the class itself is too disorganized and the visual aids to his lectures are confusing. Tests are challenging

Semm is a great professor, passionate and knowledgable of everything you'll learn in class. He's funny and straight up sarcastic. You must read his required books to pass and pay attention in class. Tests are tricky but passable. Ive taken Semm for 3 different classes now and I would take his class before he retires!

Overall grade is 3 exams, pop quizzes and XC. His exams are very detail based so make sure you study. Some found the exams hard but i think they tend to be confusing. Includes a lot of "all of the above" and "A and B/C" which can tend people to doubt the answers because they literally all sound the same. However, I thought he was a great prof!

LOVED Semm. He comes off as strict at first but its all an act. He is super liberal and jokes about it a lot but its actually funny. His lectures are long sometimes but actually interesting. You need to take good notes to do well on the tests and read a couple chapters of the text too but the tests are pretty easy if you spend a day preparing.
