Comment:

Towser was an awesome professor! Her passion for what she teaches really comes out in every lecture. Very helpful and will reply to emails quickly. A tougher marker than some other profs but any of her classes are definitely worth taking. Make sure you attend class and do the readings and you should be fine.

Comment:

I consider myself lucky to have taken Towser's class before she retired. Her lectures were interesting, incredibly funny and I looked forward coming to class every week. The class required a lot of reading and studying but attending all the classes, paying attention, taking notes and completing all the assignments got me a good grade.

Towser is one of my favourite profs that I have had at Cap. She makes the material interesting and her exams and assignments are manageable if you know the material. NOTE: No comps allowed in class and she will lock the door if you are late.

This prof is really tough. Don't even take this course if you want to get good grades. Requires a lot of readings. i regretted to take this course. i failed the course but i really spent a lot of time on it. UNFAIR.

Towser is the most unforgiving teacher I had at Capilano University. She is the hardest marker - she claims to mark at the same level as UBC professors - but she is harder. Expect a quiz every morning. If you are 2 minutes late expect to be locked out until break.

Helen is a good person, but that's all. Her lectures are merely a side-note to the textbook,and often times I feel that I should just not go to her lectures. If you do go they are vibrant, interesting, and personalized. Still a side-note to the textbook. She gives too much busy work, marks heartlessly, and is too dependent on textbook material.

shes ok in lectures and is pretty clear on every subject covered. buutttttt when it comes to marking shes hard as titanium and if your every late you have to wait an hour to get into class. plus when she gives a research paper she doesn't state what she really wants, its pretty much a guessing game

This prof can be hard as nails. If you're EVER late just for her lecture by a MINUTE, you'll be forced to stay in the hallway until "breaktime". All this said, she promotes students to intellectualize all thier studies rather than just remember txtbk sentences. She's also the coolest older woman that's ever taught me.

Had Towser for two classes this semester. She's the type where you'll either love her or hate her. Interesting lectures, great stories, defs need to read the textbook. Sometimes hard to tell what she wants on papers, but overall she was one of the best profs I had at Cap.

Worst professor I've had. Very hard to confront, boring, monotone voice, VERY hard marker. Coming from a 4.0 GPA, dropped me when I received a C+ on a paper that was given A's and A-'s by other professors. Avoid if possible this long, boring class from someone who is passionate about this subject!

Towser is a horrible teacher, she demands the same amount of work from a 100 level class as she does from a 400 level class. Her lectures are interesting if you like the topic, but her grading is completely wrong. She gave me a C on a paper, i disputed it, had other teachers mark the paper and got an A... let that speak for itself! USELESS TEACHER

Towser is my favourite prof at Cap. Her lectures are extremely informing and fun to listen to, and she is completely open to discussion/debate. Has a real passion for the subject. Tests are difficult, essays less so. If you're worried about the workload, than you're taking it for the wrong reasons.

I regret taking this course. She is way too demanding, and too strict. Her marking is discouraging considering the time and effert, but she still finds flaws. She has very little understanding towards my needs and her rules are too harsh. I have never had a teacher as tough as her.

Very hard marker, even if you do the readings you still might not pass her quizzes on the text. Exams are also very difficult. The subject itself is very interesting, however, its slightly overshadowed by the amount of work it takes to get a decent mark.

Towser is a wonderful prof. That said, she comes up with some VERY difficult exams and is often a hard, almost unfair marker. She will often give you something like a 1.2 on a question out of 3 marks?? Very picky, but you will learn a LOT from her. She's also very personable as long as you are polite and attend lectures with consistency.
