Dr. Cronen is a visiting professor at UNCW. I currently have him for COM 301, and he's by far one of my favorite professors. His tests aren't hard at all if you use his study guides, and his lectures are interesting as long as you're into the material. If you aren't into rhetoric and philosophy, though, you'll have a hard time paying attention.

worst professor i've ever had. this class is supposed to be about communication, but all he lectures about is philosophy... its bizarre. its a miracle i got a B. he does not use powerpoint and doesnt use any online programs. 3 exams are all he uses for the grade. definiely go to class.

Nice guy, but no one ever goes to class. Going in the beginning is key, then after that he puts all the notes online. He rambles a lot which actually makes the information more complicated than it is in actuality.

very cute man, but boring to listen to if you are not interested in the information. easy to understand, but hard to pay attention to. great about office hours and enjoys talking to students. loved his class and recommend others to take it! very helpful in daily life.

Cutest little old man you'll ever meet, and such a sweetheart. But he tends to go on a rant about nothing and class ends up very behind and attendance drops cause it's so boring.

Professor Cronen is such a sweetheart, he reminds me of my grandfather. However this class is SO BORING. He talks and tells stories and it is almost impossible to follow or care. If you go to the review session before the test and do the study guide you do not really need to waste time going to class.

He's a good guy...just out of place in the 21st century. Only puts the outlines online which are basically useless without further description. Class is boring, but there's PROBABLY worse...not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be, but the tests can be tricky.

Sweet old man, not a good professor. Although he's very interested in the subject, the lectures are so boring and usually don't get very far. While this is a requirement for the Comm major (unfortunately), it doesn't really help much. It's kind of just one of those classes you have to get through.

Unforturnately, this sweet man is a terrible teacher. This class being a requirement for all Comm majors is ridiculous, sadly it is so. Classes are very boring and long but if you know anything about logic, Socrates, Plato etc you can skip the first half of the semester. Tests are a challenge but really class doesn't help. Office hours are key!

Professor is AWFUL. No matter how hard you try to pay attention, you will get lost because he rambles about Greek Mythology and Ancient Greek Theory.....Provides no notes of any sort....has nothing to do with the text book. If you go to class and pay attention you might do well. Class is awful

If you go to his classes & pay attention, you'll do fine (probably won't even need to read or take notes until review session time). He's kind and willing to meet for office hours. Lectures can be confusing. Could be more organized, but tries to teach you in not a memorization not comprehension way. Makes you think, interacts with audience.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! vernon is a nice guy but the lec. was hell everyone sat around on their computers playing games bc theres literally nothing else you can do. he knows his stuff and cowrote the textbook but he doesnt belong in a large lecture hall. if you are a comm major, go to 1 class a week, the class before an exam & wing it its all u can do

The class was so insanely boring...I really had no idea what he was talking about half the time because he digressed so much. You WANT to get mad at him, but he's just so cute and old that you can't! He messed up my final grade and it took a whole semester for him to fix it. If you aren't a comm major, don't take it...so boring :( Poor Vernon

Vern is a wonderful old man with a good heart and he really does try, its just lost in the HUGE lecture. He has a tendency to ramble a bit, which is alright for a guy his age, but he can go on and on and on till you cant wait for the end of the semester. If you go to see him during office hours he'll adore you. Sweet man, boring subject.

My advice: ONLY go to the classes where he passes out the study guides and reviews the material before the exam. Attending any other classes would be pointless. Only read the book if you need points on the study guide clarified. I did this and I still got an easy A. Yes this class really sucks but Comm majors need it - just get it over with!

Yes, his tests are difficult to understand but if you pay attention to what he talks about in class and do the readings then you'll be fine. Personally, loved him. Great guy but I wish that the University would give him small classes so he could do hands on activities.
