He is such a quirky, wonderful man! He is very passionate about English and film studies, and you can see it in the way he lectures in class. Since it was a seminar, he really encouraged participation and weighs it heavily in your final grade too. His jokes in class will come out of nowhere and surprise you. Would take again.

Very knowledgeable but keep in mind he is looking for VERY specific details and analysis' of the films and books you watch/read. Not and easy class by any means and all papers. He also gave detailed pop quizes on most readings. I would not reccomend his seminal unless you are really interested in film studies.

He is a super nice professor but I took his ENG-451 course and it was extremely hard. Do not take his classes during your freshman year!

Effing awesome. His class gave me such joy. He is a brilliant professor precisely because he expects so much of you: he knows that if you work hard, the reward of well-thought-out ideas will be soon to follow. I wish every teacher was as dedicated to the profession as he is.

Dr. Hausmann is a rock star. He can be intimidating at first but he's very willing to make time to help students. Also hilarious.

Hausmann was NOT EASY. I have made pretty easy A's in all my other English courses, but he was tough. That being said, he is hard because he demands that you think in complex ways about cool ideas. He himself is very smart and fun, and he has a good sense of humor. If you do work hard, he will recognize this and reward you. Just do the work!

Really interesting guy, but not a easy grader. Lots of writing, but it was on an interesting topic. He's really intelligent and flamboyant at that too. He'll definitely make time to help you on papers! I took rough drafts in to him and he helped a lot with how to improve them. You can make an A if you put in enough effort. It won't be easy though.

Dr. Hausmann is a scrupulous grader, it is nearly impossible to get an A on a paper. Also, even though he teaches a non-writing seminar, you will be writing more than most of the writing seminars. Don't take this class if you want an easy grade, you are going to have to work very hard. And make sure you cite your sources, he is adamant about this!

If you're going to take a film class, find Dr. Letteri. Dr. Hausmann, while nice enough, wasn't helpful in the least and not at all understanding. You were required to stay in lab when it ran long and took off MAJOR points from your grade if you missed one or were late. His class is definitely in my top three worst classes at Furman.

Dr. Hausmann is an astounding, incisive intellect and one of the most genuinely egalitarian and benevolent people I've ever met. An incredible professor and human. Look elsewhere for easy A's -- Hausmann's classes are challenging but immensely rewarding. Highly recommended.

A caring, intelligent professor with a genuine interest in the average FU student. He doesn't pick favorites and encourages everyone to think critically and independently. Take film analysis in particular if you're fed up with mundane Furman classes. To succeed in this class, keep an open mind and keep up with the readings/start essays early.

His class isn't easy but I am definitely not a writer. If you are like me and bs your way through English classes be careful because this guy is very sharp. He writes a log of everything said in class and I think he has eyes in the back of his head.

Excellent teacher who really cares about his students. He is willing to give 100% both in the classroom and outside of it, and expects you to do the same. I learned more in 1 term with Hausmann than in 4 years of high school.

the "spectacle" class was nothing like i expected it to be. tough class, definitely not an easy a, or easy b for that matter. take this class only if you're serious about writing.

His class will make you a better writer, but it was different from the description. You have to work to make a B and work tons to make an A; don't take if you're worried about your GPA.

I love this man! His mannerisms are so hilarious that you can never be mad at him, even if you just got a bad grade. Definitely take him if you want to think and really delve into the readings. Plus, you get to watch tons of films and talk about them, which is really awesome. You have to work hard, but it's so worth it. :)

Not very helpful, a bit moody at times. Expects too much out of you. The subjects in the course turned out to be different from the description. Take someone else.
