Very understanding of students having lives outside of his class, so does not require people to do the readings or come to class. As long as you do well on the papers, it does not matter. He's easygoing & knowledgeable. He will ask questions about your opinions & knowledge & help you along if you don't have an answer. Participation is a major requirement; I learned this when I tried to get out of doing a presentation & he said I couldn't, even though I offered to do something else in place of it; so participate from the start!

In the beginning, I did not enjoy Dr. Frank at all. For a couple of weeks, all he did was lectured and no one in class spoke. As the semester went along, I finally realized what kind of professor he is and now I can proudly say my note taking skills have improved tremendously.

I loved going to class and discussing the reading. He'll make you think and loves asking questions. Show up and do the reading and you'll come out with a good grade. Plus, he's a good looking guy.

Best Teacher at UNCA, hands down. He makes me wish I would have majored in Sociology(Psychology). I had him for two classes. Likes papers, and tons of reading, but not too heavy.

Great class, although Frank's version of it probably wasn't what SOC225 was intended to be. Very interesting texts, a LOT of reading. 3 papers made up entire grade, which is great if you're terrific at writing papers! :) Discussions go off on tangents at the slightest provocation, but what can you do. Class was still a joy to attend.

Dr. Frank was very helpful within class, and he promoted lots of really great class discussions. I had him for a summer course and with only 12 others there was plenty of time for discussion. I'm not sure how important discussions are during the normal semester. Attendance wasn't required, but if you miss he will notice and say something about it.

Dr. Frank is the man. He's really easygoing, and doesn't make a big fuss over attendance and daily grades, but that does mean your grade depends on a few papers. He likes to get involved in discussion and debate, and seems open to students points of view. He jokes around a lot, if you want a serious professor this isn't him.
