This class consists of only 4 tests, but don't worry you can earn a TON of extra credit. Take lecture notes, read the readings, and show up to class for the extra credit quizzes. Be aware - he has his TA show up on test day, but he does in fact sit in the class with a hat and glasses on scoping out cheaters. Keep your eyes peeled.

Slava is a great prof. The only things counted towards grades are the four exams but he gives LOTS of extra credit. No textbook needed!

Between my friends and I we all had different professors for Soc2000, and I did the least amount of work for mine, and got an A. Slava is a fair grader, your grade is based off 4 exams and that's it, but he puts so much extra credit on it, very hard to do poorly. He gives study guides based off lectures. And he tells some pretty cool stories.

Slava teaches an interesting class and shows that he is very knowledgable about several current and past world events. If you attend all of the classes and complete all of the extra credit assignments then you will get away with not having to read or study at all. Great guy and awesome Russian accent.

We had 4 Tests, all Multiple Choice, True/False. The tests are worth 100 points each and he always put 110 to 120 questions on all Exams . If you get over 100, that counts as Extra Credit. He also gave out pop quiz in class which is about 30 to 40 points worth and that count as Extra Credits. There are 20 to 30 points worth couple assignments too

This was not a class I chose to take, but rather one required. Even if I didn't see that this was an easy A class, this man is the most intelligent professor I have ever had. As a 3rd year with no interest in this subject, he made me want to listen despite the long lectures. Truly one of the best, Karpov. Show up, take notes, and read.

I found his world perspective more interesting then the lectures themselves. Intelligent guy and has a lot of relevant things to say about world affairs. Class grading was simple enough with enough EC chances to guarantee you an A with moderate effort. You have to at least skim the readings to do well on exams... questions are general.

Super fun class and Dr. Karpov is very interesting. His accent is fun to listen to and he answers questions thoroughly. He's also really, really funny if you are paying attention. You HAVE to go to class and you HAVE to do the readings to do well. Also, GO TO THE STUDY SESSIONS. They're VERY helpful.

This class is soooo boring, but you HAVE to go to lectures to get the notes. Your note taking skills need to be A1 in this class and make sure you read the articles. The extra credit quizzes are life savers. This class is pretty tough but it should not be a problem if you do what you're supposed to do.

Four tests, 75 points each. That's it, extra credit quizzes and paper. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS IN ORDER TO GET A GOOD GRADE! This exams are very simple if you go to class. Do this Readings (not that long of articles) He tends to ramble on a lot. But other that that he's fine.

His tests aren't bad if you read the articles and take notes. The lectures are pointless, students post all the slides on black board and what he talks about that isn't on the slides are never on the tests. He rambles and it can be hard to understand him sometimes. My advice for this class, get the books, use the study guide and you'll do fine.

Great prof. lectures are long but I found the subject matter to be interesting. Everything is explained clearly and the syllabus is followed to a T. A lot of what he talks about seems to come from prior knowledge rather than out of a book which I loved. Great class, would recommend it to anyone.

Karpov is extremely intelligent and obviously loves what he teaches. WMU is pretty lucky to have such a great professor from Russia. Yes, you have to take notes and study them but anyone who thinks this class is boring is nuts. You will earn a LOT from his pure knowledge and not just look at some boring slides. Great course!

Great prof, lectured solely from knowledge, used Powerpoint so students could take notes. Guy really knows his stuff, and tries to make it as interesting as possible by throwing in jokes every so often. Fairly easy class, out of class reading, and TONS of extra credit available, especially near the final exam. Gives out extensive study guides.
