Dr. Hou is a nice guy, but in terms of teaching he is really lacking. When asked for clarification on a particular topic he would simply repeat the exact thing he had said prior to the question, not clarifying anything at all. He may be nice, and may be laughable at the amount of chalk he wastes, I do not think he should teach the way he teaches.

As is said in other comments, Dr. Hou is interesting. He does still back into things without realizing it, he will snap chalk consistently on the board, and will talk softly. But if you listen and draw all the diagrams he does while following along, you should get an A. He is super kind, I would recommend taking this professor 100 times over.

Dr. Hou's explanations aren't always the most clear, but he is extremely kind, goes out of his way to clarify, work out problems, and rework them if need be. This course is extremely easy, especially with the help of the countless online videos regarding algorithms. Honestly, this should be an online course. Still, I really like Dr. Hou.

Honestly, he is an adorable little guy (in an entirely platonic way). He is the most soft-spoken, and possibly one of those most disorganized lecturers I have ever encountered. HOWEVER, he is still extremely nice and receptive to his students. Overall, I think he's great; very reasonable on tests. This class in particular is super boring.

another one of my favorite CS teachers at SIU; very helpful and understanding; great teacher; definitely liked his course; just know that a "messer" is a "method" ;) gotta cut him a little slack since he's not a native.

Understood 6 words or so the whole semester. Depended on book. Needs to take English speech lessons badly and speak up more. Also, I find it disrespectful when he would speak with students in his native language. It seemed like an unfair disadvantage.
