One of the more bizarre professors in this arm of the galaxy. He is VERY abrasive in person and seems perpetually on a manic swing. He will spew sage wisdom in one breath and mortally offend in the next. At heart a really good guy but very draining.

He's a bit cocky and can be slightly obnoxious but he is a great teacher. Very smart and knows his stuff. I had an amazing time in his class and learned alot of new information. Take him if you can and talk to him, he is very interesting and forthright.

Arens is the craziest prof you will ever have. Best thing about him is his endless humor. Attendance is not mandatory, but he takes it randomly 12 times, so you should go, plus its really fun listening to him. He's a great teacher, but that doesn't mean you should believe everything he says. Some of his ideas are kinda, um, contrary to sci fact...

Prof Arens is a great teacher, no exaggeration in that whatsoever. I haven't been to one single lecture in which I was bored..Take notes during class, do the reading, and obviously show up to class, and you should get a good grade.

I loved this class. Professor Arens was funny and smart. All you need to do is go to class and you're golden. The reading wasn't bad, either. The class was interesting and I've taken more anthro classes because of it.

He is an amazing professor but the test are difficult! The stupid TA made them for us and that b itch was out to get us! She made the multiple choice tests so hard but besides that, the class was great!

He is really full of himself and maybe he should be because he has done a lot. But still he shows that off a little to much. He is a good prof. but sometimes confusing. You have to read the book and notes and come to lecture to do well. Just make sure you study when test time comes, tricky questions.

Arens is sarcastic and when you go to class you barely realize that you are absorbing anything at all! The amount of reading he gives really kills you if you actually read it, but the tests are all multiple choice. I liked the class, but at times I was a bit bored. Worth goin to, b/c he does make it interesting, and his debates are entertaining.

His experience has made him not only knowledgable about his field but also about the students he teaches. The whole reason he thought to do research on cannibalism was because a student inspired him. No matter what anyone else says, he cares about his students and the only reason his tests are tricky is because he believes students should work.

Prof Arens is great, hes very passionate about what he does. I would definately recommend him to my friends. Class might seem easy, but you still have to study and do the readings if you want to get an A. Oh yeah, and attendance isnt mandatory, however he does take attendance randomly, full attendance is like a bonus towards your grade.

He was a really good teacher and made class really interesting. His tests are hard though, very ambiguous. If you study you can get an A on his tests. Has one essay but its REALLY short, less than two pages . The only problem is he assigns novels to read and only put a few questions about it on the tests so if you dont read the book its okay

He's a great teacher. His lectures were never boring and his tests are fairly easy (you do need to take good notes on the lectures... even the little side conversations he has with students, they sometimes show up on tests). The reading material is all that exciting, but its not bad.

Abrasive. Mean. Likes to start intellectual arguments with students, which will help you in the long run, but will put many off.

The class is easy, subject is interesting, and he is a good lecturer. If you're a non-conformist, gullible, fresh out of highschool, or if you don't generally care about school, you will prob like him. If you like down to earth professors, you will probably not like him. He likes to instigate arguments and get reactions out of you.

it really SUCKS! his exams were SUPER tricky. this class mess up my whole GPA. i hate him. i also had a hard time to stay awake because it always take him a long time to hit to the point. the only good thing is no HW, BUT attendence counts.

I took this class to learn something about cultural ANT as well as to get an easy A, both of which I did. But, I still regret taking this class b/c this guy pisses the heck out of you. He IS pompous, close-minded (ironically), and embarrasingly technologically challenged. He also loves starting religious debates only to belittle major religions.
