Had some friends in this class and we made up a drinking game. Every time he says, "course materials PACKET" we'd take a swig. Every time he'd say, "I'm gonna tell you all a story..." and then he'd forget the story, and just sit there and his eyes would glaze over, take another drink. Only we didn't bring alcohol, it was Vitaminwater.

Do the extra credit! The tests aren't the easiest, but I still got an A because I did all of the extra credit. The class was boring, but it is not as hard as everyone tries to make it out to be. The people in my class that complained about their grade either never showed up or sat on their phones the entire time.

Absolutely no way to have back and forth communication. Emails will be addressed in person on your next class, he cannot hear anything( I mean anything). I pride myself on note taking. Open note test no answers could be found in my notes. We talked for 3 classes about the migration of Hebrews, Jews, and how blacks came from Noahs' son Hamm.....

He cannot hear so the most annoying thing about this class is the students who get mad whenever he doesn't understand what they're saying and asks them to write it down. He explains at the beginning that he cannot hear at all. This obviously makes the class difficult. We did not have a GA. Tests are hard to study for and are hard in general.

Mr. Paynter seems like a nice man. But he is in his 70's and is pretty much deaf. To communicate, you have to write him a note. He is hard to understand sometimes when he is talking so you have to listen carefully. Take very good notes and read the book. Do the extra credit or you will not pass!

Not going to lie, all I did in this class was play on my phone. What's on the test usually does not have a lot to do with what he says, and after I figured that out I stopped paying attention. He gives you extra credit assignments, but you pretty much HAVE to do them to pass. Just do the extra credit and you will probably get at least a B

Toughest college class I have taken. got a 46 74 74 on all the tests but got a B at the end because I did all the extra credit. Do the extra credit and you'll get an easy B or A. going to class isn't really necessary.

Worthless, not helpful at all, goes way off topic, doesn't explain any thing. Questions on the test are based off HIS knowledge not the book. If you have a question you have to write a note to him and have him answer it because he's deaf and can't hear anything. If you can help it take this class at a different school so your credits transfer.

Dr. Paynter is terrible. His class is ridiculous and he is the only one teaching it. He is deaf so interaction and discussion in class is impossible. In a SOCIAL STUDIES class I think communication would help. He needed to retire years ago. This is an extremely hard class (I managed a B) and he does not help at all. DO NOT TAKE unless you must.

He is a nice professor and knows the material very well, but he is extremely hard of hearing (to the point you have to write down what you want to say to him on a piece of paper.) Because of this it makes it very difficult to ask questions and have discussions during class. Only take this class if you work well independently bc he isn't much help

This class was ridiculous and unnecessary. He does nothing but lecture and is impossible to understand. Also he is deaf, his hearing aid squeals all class and you cannot ask questions. The tests have nothing to do with the lectures, straight from book. He does not give A's. The man needs to retire already, he should not be aloud to teach a class.

This class was by far the worst class I have ever taken. He rambles all day and the tests are mostly from the book. The tests are ridiculous. I am a 4.0 student...well I was until this class ruined my average. I am so mad. I tried my hardest and still only got a B. Most of the people I know failed. He's a sweethearted man, but really needs 2 retire

This poor guy needs to retire. He's deaf, so if you need to talk to him, you have to use notes. The entire class is him rambling, usually on random tangents about history that take up the majority of the class. He repeats himself constantly. And, hands down, it is the most boring class I've ever taken.

Paynter is a nice guy but he can't hear anything. You have to write notes to communicate. The class is based on three tests. He gives several papers which are extra credit as is the book review. He often goes off on tangents which seem completely unrelated to the material.

Very tough and boring class. This guy needs to retire because he can barely hear, and will tell you that he is legally deaf! This is basically a history class! The tests are from the book which he never even discusses, so you gotta read the book! I would suggest taking notes too! Paynter is a nice guy, but he is definitely in his own little world!

This class was easier than what the other reviews said. You do five 1-page papers and a book report, which are all extra credit (worth 50 pts in all). 3 exams, 2 are open note/book. 50 questions, multiple choice. I did all the papers but not the book report and made 1 C, 2 Bs on the exams. I still did really good in the class.

This is the most boring class I've ever had. If you do all the extra credit then you'll get a good grade. He's deaf so you can't really ask questions.

This class was a bit of a blast from the past...without the blast. But the class wasn't too hard, you can't really participate in lectures or discussions. You sit there the ENTIRE time listening to lecture. I would try to take someone else personally. I wouldn't take him again
